Xilinx Opens Development Centre In India To Strengthen Global R&D Ecosystem
HYDERABAD, India, October 4, 2006 – Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), the world’s leading supplier of programmable logic solutions, today announced the opening of its own development centre in India, located in a 33,000 square foot facility in CyberPearl, Hyderabad. The Xilinx facility will initially have about 75 staff and has the capacity to hold up to 300 employees to support the company’s growth plans in India over the next several years. Xilinx will manage and operate the centre which is responsible for the full product development lifecycle of Intellectual Property (IP) cores in the high-growth areas of automotive electronics, embedded processing and high-speed serial I/O connectivity. IP cores are pre-engineered, functional modules that Xilinx customers use to reduce the development time of their programmable system designs. In addition, the facility will provide design verification for IP cores and technical support for Xilinx customers.
“Our worldwide strategy is to invest in high-growth markets to support our customers and increasing our local presence is a strong signal of our long-term commitment to the important Indian technology sector,” said Kris Chellam, senior vice-president of Global Enterprise Services at Xilinx. “This new site in Hyderabad is one of our largest development facilities outside of the United States and enables us to tap into the excellent pool of local engineering talent, thereby strengthening our global R&D ecosystem and bringing us closer to the local electronics design market.”
“Through our strategic relationship with CMC since 2004, we have established a strong development track record in India delivering over 35 locally-designed IP cores to date, of which more than half are based on cutting-edge 65nm process technology,” said Akshya Prakash, managing director of the Xilinx Development Centre in India. “With our own facility in Hyderabad, we’re excited to enter the next phase of our growth in India, building up our local workforce and increasing our engagement with leading local design houses and universities.”
“Our world-class collaboration with Xilinx in the area of programmable IP core design has been a successful, productive venture for us over the past few years,” added R. Ramanan, managing director and CEO of CMC Limited. “We’re looking forward to new opportunities to work together to create leading programmable solutions, especially in the area of embedded systems, for electronics designers in India and around the world.”
Xilinx Successful Development Track Record in India
In February 2004, Xilinx announced a strategic relationship with CMC Limited to work on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) IP cores. These IP cores were developed for telecommunications, consumer electronics and automotive applications and are available for use by the Xilinx worldwide customer base of over 7,500 companies and over 200,000 design engineers, generating 50,000 design starts annually. Building on this momentum, Xilinx is today formally opening its own development centre located in CyberPearl, Hyderabad.
“Xilinx deeply values its relationship with CMC and we will continue to work with them in local development activities and in other areas related to IT and customer services,” stated Chellam. Added Ramanan “CMC also treasures its relationship with Xilinx and we will leverage our FPGA competencies and design service capabilities to continue providing value-added work to their activities in India.”
