Wind River and Cavium Networks provide Multicore Device Software Optimization on OCTEON Multicore MIPS64 Processors
ALAMEDA and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., October 9, 2006 — Cavium Networks, a world leader in networking, security and embedded processor solutions and Wind River, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), today announced that Wind River® Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition and Wind River VxWorks 6.1 is available on Cavium Networks' OCTEON Multi-core MIPS64 based processor family.
Wind River's commercial-grade Linux platforms contain a fully tested and validated Linux distribution based on the latest Linux 2.6 kernel technology. At the platform's core is an open cross-build system, leveraging "pristine-source" packages and managing individual patches to build the Linux run-time distribution transparently for a specific device. Wind River Linux platforms feature SMP support for the Cavium Networks OCTEON Multi-core MIPS64 Processor.
Wind River VxWorks platforms are based on the world’s most widely adopted RTOS. Built on a highly scalable, deterministic, hard real-time kernel, VxWorks enables companies to scale and optimize their run-time environment using only the specific technologies required by their device. From the smallest footprint requirement to the highest performance level, VxWorks gives developers the flexibility to build their optimal solution quickly and easily while meeting cost, quality, and functionality requirements.
The OCTEON™ Processor family consists of 1 to 16 MIPS64 based cnMIPS™ cores providing up to 16GHz of 64-bit compute processing on a single chip. Additionally, OCTEON incorporates the most advanced multi-layer application acceleration for networking control, data and services applications. The OCTEON Processor family integrates up to 8 Gigabit ports, up to dual SPI-4.2, PCI-X, up to 144-bit DDR2 controller, up to dual 18-bit RLDRAM II controllers, on-chip packet processing, QoS, TCP, compression / decompression, encryption and pattern matching acceleration hardware to deliver a substantial price, performance and power benefit over alternative solutions.
Availability
Early Access versions of both VxWorks and Wind River Linux platforms on OCTEON CN38XX-EVB-NIC4 platform are available today from Cavium Networks with general availability from Wind River planned for Q4 2006.
