MoSys Enables Advanced Mobile Handhelds through License Agreement with NexusChips
NexusChips to Use MoSys 1T-SRAM in Its Leading Mobile 3D Graphics and Multimedia SoC Solutions
December 13, 2006 -- SUNNYVALE, Calif. & SEOUL, South Korea -- MoSys, Inc. (NASDAQ: MOSY), the industry’s leading provider of high-density system-on-chip (SoC) embedded memory solutions, and NexusChips Co. Ltd, a leader in high-performance 3D graphics chips for mobile handhelds, today announced a licensing agreement whereby NexusChips will utilize MoSys 1T-SRAM technology to enable mobile handheld applications that have not been possible with previous memory technologies. NexusChips GiPump 3D graphics accelerators and mobile stereoscopic display features are enabled by the dense, low-power technology offered in the MoSys 1T-SRAM. The NexusChips application in consumer mobile expands upon MoSys’ application in home entertainment and mobile multimedia.
“The power, density, and performance capabilities of the MoSys 1T-SRAM enables NexusChips to offer leading features including stereoscopic 3D graphics with world-beating performance at more than 20 frames/second of sustained frame rate,” said HK Kim, president and CEO of NexusChips. “By working with MoSys, NexusChips can offer product features and performance not possible using conventional embedded memory technology. The NexusChips GiPump has been verified and selected by major mobile players.”
“We are pleased to have such a leading developer of mobile 3D graphics solutions among those licensing the MoSys technology,” said Chet Silvestri, chief executive officer of MoSys. “The NexusChips application is indicative of a leading trend in mobile handheld devices, in which sophisticated and powerful 3D graphics are utilized in high-volume mobile telephones and gaming devices. We are pleased to help enable this trend.”
About MoSys, Inc.
Founded in 1991, MoSys (NASDAQ:MOSY) develops, licenses and markets innovative memory technologies for semiconductors. MoSys' patented 1T-SRAM technologies offer a combination of high density, low power consumption, high speed and low cost unmatched by other available memory technologies. The single transistor bit cell used in 1T-SRAM memory results in the technology achieving much higher density than traditional four or six transistor SRAMs while using the same standard logic manufacturing processes. 1T-SRAM technologies also offer the familiar, refresh-free interface and high performance for random address access cycles associated with traditional SRAMs. In addition, these technologies can reduce operating power consumption by a factor of four compared with traditional SRAM technology, contributing to making them ideal for embedding large memories in System on Chip (SoC) designs. MoSys' licensees have shipped more than 100 million chips incorporating 1T-SRAM embedded memory technologies, demonstrating excellent manufacturability in a wide range of silicon processes and applications. MoSys is headquartered at 755 N. Mathilda Avenue, Sunnyvale, California 94085. More information is available on MoSys' website at http://www.mosys.com.
