Xilinx Virtex-5 SXT FPGAs Achieve PCI Express v1.1 Compliance
Proven solution enables users to rapidly adopt industry's fastest 65nm FPGAs with integrated low power endpoint blocks for PCI Express and serial transceivers
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- May 24, 2007 -- Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), the world's leading supplier of programmable solutions, today announced that its XtremeDSP(TM) Virtex(TM)-5 SXT FPGAs have passed the latest PCI Express(R) Endpoint v1.1 base specification compliance workshop and are now listed on the PCI-SIG(R) integrator's list. The XtemeDSP Virtex-5 SXT platform is the second Xilinx 65nm FPGA platform to achieve PCI Express v1.1 compliance -- the Virtex-5 LXT platform passed the PCI Express v1.1 compliance tests in October 2006.
The Virtex-5 SXT FPGA platform, optimized to deliver the industry's highest DSP performance with 352 GMACs at 550MHz, is the first FPGA to integrate 3.2Gbps low-power serial transceivers with integrated endpoint blocks for PCI Express(R) and tri-mode Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC) blocks. The proven solution allows system designers to develop PCI Express based applications with confidence and great ease of use.
"Xilinx continues at the forefront of PCI Express technology, one of the most rapidly growing serial interfaces," said Per Holmberg, director of Programmable Digital Systems Marketing at Xilinx. "Our fully integrated Virtex-5 PCI Express solution provides designers a proven off-the-shelf solution that saves time, reduces power consumption, and frees up valuable FPGA fabric resources."
Xilinx has been delivering the benefits of 65nm Virtex-5 FPGAs since May 2006, and is now shipping 13 devices across three platforms (LX, LXT, and SXT). Xilinx provides complete Virtex-5 PCI Express based solutions, including the PCI Express development kit and protocol pack. PCI-SIG Compliance Tests
PCI-SIG controls specification, maintains the integrator's list, and conducts regular compliance workshops to enable PCI Express vendors to run tests on their products and ensure interoperability. It sponsors testing sessions worldwide to confirm a given product's compliance with the latest version of the PCI specification and issues a "pass" or "fail" for each test performed. To pass the Compliance Workshop, the product must score a minimum of 80 percent for interoperability testing, and pass the PCI-SIG-sponsored tests. Three gold tests are conducted for electrical, configuration, and protocol compliance.
Xilinx Virtex-5 LXT and SXT FPGAs passed all tests, both under components and add-in cards. The company participated in the PCI-SIG workshop #54 in April 2007 and #52 in October 2006, and passed the v1.1 compliance tests. Previously, Xilinx participated in workshop #51 in August 2006 and #50 in May 2006 with its Virtex-5 FPGAs and passed the v1.0a compliance tests.
