MIPS32 24KE Core Designed Into VDSL2 Residential Gateway from Ikanos
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., August 1, 2007 — MIPS Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and business applications, today announced that Ikanos Communications, Inc., a leading developer and provider of Fiber Fast™ broadband solutions, has introduced the MIPS-Based™ Fusiv® Vx180 VDSL2 gateway processor. Ikanos’ Vx180 single chip, multi-mode VDSL2 gateway processor is designed to deliver 2.7 GHz of processing power, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), multi-mode DSL and security, while supporting best-in-class Quality of Service (QoS) and wire speed performance.
Targeted applications include Customer Premise Equipment (CPE), home networking, SOHO and SME networking—explosive sectors within the burgeoning broadband arena where MIPS holds a strong leadership position. Industry analyst firm Infonetics Research predicts that annual broadband CPE revenue will reach $6.2 billion by 2010 as service providers continue to bundle voice, data, video, and wireless services in triple and quadruple play offerings to attract new customers and reduce churn among existing customers.
“As new broadband access applications emerge and standards continue to evolve, our next-generation solutions must adapt quickly to meet the market demand for increased performance, flexibility and power-efficiency,” said Dean Westman, vice president and general manager of Ikanos’ Gateway Products Group. “The proven performance and advanced features of MIPS’ 24KE processor combined with Ikanos’ Fusiv technology give our residential gateways an edge in a quickly advancing marketplace.”
“Ikanos is recognized as a leading provider of innovative broadband SoCs that deliver high-performance residential gateway solutions to a market with an insatiable need to access information instantly,” said Brad Holtzinger, vice president of worldwide sales at MIPS Technologies. “We are delighted that our core technology is now shipping in a breakthrough product designed to help communications carriers deploy superior broadband, networking and VoIP services for the connected home.”
