Product Launch
AUSTIN, TX - May 1, 2000 - Alchemy Semiconductor, Inc., an Austin-based fabless semiconductor company targeting the Internet Edge Device market, today announced the appointment of Eric Broockman as President and Chief Executive Officer.
Broockman was vice president & general manager of the Network Division for Crystal Semiconductor, later becoming the general manager of the Crystal Semiconductor Products Division of Cirrus Logic. Along with his management expertise, he brings 22 years of experience in design, design management, general management of networking and semiconductor products to lead the Alchemy team.
"Eric Broockman has been a key figure in the semiconductor and networking industries for years," said Jim Clardy, Alchemy board member and co-founder/former CEO of Crystal Semiconductor. "His experience as an engineer, combined with that of an effective general manager, makes him an ideal fit for Alchemy's target market."
Alchemy Semiconductor designs, develops and markets high performance, yet very low power systems-on-a-chip (SOCs) based on the 32-bit MIPS architecture for the Internet Edge Device marketplace. The company's founding team includes several of the most prominent embedded microprocessor architects and developers in the world, including former DEC Alpha / StrongARM design team members.
Broockman, who personally holds eight patents and was a National Science Foundation Fellow, notes that the aggregation of proven design talent in one company "puts us in an extremely enviable position." "With a stellar design and marketing team assembled, Alchemy Semiconductor is uniquely poised to enable next generation applications in the Internet Edge Device market, including wireless 3G Internet," said Broockman.
Clardy called Broockman's hiring an indication of the company's technological strength and ability to attract top executive management as an independent entity.
"Broockman's leadership leverages that technology talent with strong management acumen to take the product to market," Clardy said.
The company, which received seed investment from Cadence Design and spun out with over $15 million in venture capital funding in April 2000, announces its first product at the Embedded Processor Forum in San Jose, California, June 12-16, 2000.
