NEC Electronics Europe and Vector Informatik release complete AUTOSAR software stack based on combined hardware and software know-how
DUESSELDORF and STUTTGART (Germany), SANTA CLARA, Calif. (U.S.A.) -- 03 Sep 2007 -- NEC Electronics Europe and Vector Informatik have introduced a complete AUTOSAR software stack for NEC Electronics’ V850ES/Fx3™ and V850E/PHO3™ microcontrollers, based on NEC Electronics’ 32-bit V850™ CPU core.
NEC Electronics’ microcontroller abstraction layer (MCAL) software contains all AUTOSAR device driver and interface modules. To match the exceptional quality standards of the hardware, the MCAL software was developed using best-in-class software processes certified to CMMI Level 5 and SPICE Level 3.
Vector incorporated NEC Electronics’ device driver modules into its AUTOSAR solution, which consists of the remaining basic software modules, from operating system through memory management to communication. The tool of choice for this integration is Vector’s MICROSAR configuration suite thanks to its efficacy in integrating third-party components. Continuous cross checks and validation during the development process ensure integration without any loss in quality.
The joint AUTOSAR solution from NEC Electronics and Vector Informatik GmbH is customer oriented and is a seamless system with coordinated basic software modules optimized for microcontroller hardware.
Gerd Look, General Manager Automotive Business Group at NEC Electronics Europe, states that “as a semiconductor vendor, NEC Electronics knows its own microcontroller hardware best. It stands to reason that NEC Electronics supplies the hardware-dependent software modules. This ensures best-in-class software implementation for our microcontrollers, minimizing memory usage and maximising performance.”
The first vehicle manufacturers planning to introduce the AUTOSAR software as a software standard for vehicle platforms are expected to begin mass production around 2010. The combination of the AUTOSAR basic software (BSW) and run-time environment (RTE) from Vector Informatik and the MCAL from NEC Electronics merges hardware and software know-how to create a complete product optimized for NEC Electronics microcontrollers.
Availability
NEC Electronics’ V850ES/Fx3 and V850E/PHO3 microcontrollers with the AUTOSAR software stack are currently available, and additional devices are scheduled to be available soon.
