PLDA Announces Innovative Business Expansion Into "Application IP" (AIP) Bringing their Bus IP Design Expertise to High-Growth Vertical Markets
Includes Unveiling of a New Design Center, New Corporate Headquarters and Updated Website.
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- September 12, 2007 -- PLDA, the industry leader in the high-speed bus IP market, today announced a evolutionary expansion of their focus to include a new business division. Called “Application IP” (AIP), this new division will leverage PLDA’s high speed bus IP core designs into key vertical markets.
Profitable since its inception, PLDA is the world's largest PCI IP core vendor (Gartner; 2005), designing and selling a wide range of FPGA and ASIC interfacing solutions to some of the most widely recognized companies in the industry. PLDA’s successful PCI business model will be used as the basis for the successful launch of the new “Application IP” (AIP) division. Because of PLDA’s pinpoint focus on specialized bus architecture IP and their commitment to best-in-class support, PLDA is uniquely positioned to help create next-generation chip products in three key areas where high-speed bus architecture IP is critical:
- Video & Broadcast Industry
IP products addressing the video and broadcast markets must be both versatile and efficient in order to adapt to continuously evolving standards. PLDA has planned several new products for the broadcast industry including, a professional quality, digital audio sample rate converter (SRC) core. With support for up to 8 stereo pairs in and out, the PLDA SRC can replace multiple discrete SRC chips with a single FPGA. AES3/EBU and I2S formats are fully supported, and a broad range of input and output sample rates can be accommodated.
- Automotive Industry:
PLDA’s Fisheye Correction (FEC) solution is a highly optimized and configurable video transformation platform that takes fisheye distorted video as its input and transforms it into a corrected non-distorted video at the output. In addition to the correction of the distortion, the PLDA IP engine can optionally perform a smoothing operation to remove potential display artifacts. The platform comprises three individual yet fully interoperable functional modules: Video-in for digital video input, the Fisheye correction engine, and an LCD Driver for display output.
- Bridging Application
PLDA has developed a comprehensive "Programmable Bridge on a Chip" platform that delivers the best tradeoff between time to volume, production cost, flexibility and NRE. PLDA specializes in customized bridging solutions including:
- PCI, PCI-X, PCI Express
- VME , Mil STD1553
- SDI , BT.656
- USB , SRIO
- Proprietary protocols and busses
- Legacy protocols and busses
- Methodology and Expertise
In conjunction with the announcement on the Application IP (AIP) Division, PLDA also announced the creation of a new design center in Tunisia, expansion into a new 11,000 square feet headquarters in Aix en Provence, France and the launching of an updated website (www.plda.com). These announcements underscore PLDA’s commitment to both the new Application IP (AIP) division and their underlying bus architecture IP design.
“This is a pivotal time in the IP industry. With continued consolidation happening with many IP companies, the number of independent and focused IP suppliers is waning.” said Jean-Yves Brena, President and Co-founder of PLDA. “PLDA believes that to serve the IP community well, you need to have focus. By continuing our focus on high speed bus IP and tailoring it to the needs of these high value segments, PLDA is uniquely positioned to help drive innovation in chip design.”
