Mentor Graphics Introduces Multimedia Solution for Nucleus OS and Inflexion Platform
WILSONVILLE, Ore., September 19, 2007 - Mentor Graphics Corporation today announced the launch of the Inflexion Platform ™ Multimedia Feature Pack for Nucleus® OS, a new paradigm for manufacturers of mass market consumer electronic devices to bring advanced audio and video capabilities to their products.
Inflexion Platform UI, launched in December 2006, enables the agile creation and customization of visually compelling, easy to use interfaces for consumer electronic devices such as mobile phones, personal media players and set-top boxes. Completely new designs can be realized without modification to a device’s software stack.
Inflexion Platform Multimedia Feature Pack extends this capability, enabling rich audio and video content to be incorporated easily throughout a device’s interface, without the need for programming or scripting. Example applications include: previews for premium downloadable content (e.g. music videos); animated advertisements; ‘live’ application icons; embedded context-sensitive audio/video help content; and full-screen streaming video playback.
To ensure maximum interoperability, Inflexion Platform Multimedia Feature Pack implements the new OpenMAX™ industry standard API. This means that any OpenMAX-compliant multimedia component--including audio and video codecs--can be integrated with minimal effort, including those which take advantage of accelerated graphics hardware.
“OpenMAX has wide industry support, enabling the rapid and flexible deployment of streaming media acceleration on a wide range of silicon platforms and operating systems,” commented Neil Trevett, president of the Khronos Group. “Mentor Graphics’ announcement today is truly significant as it enables embedded developers to take advantage of the full power of OpenMAX across the wide range of embedded platforms that use Nucleus OS.”
“Nucleus OS has established itself as the preferred operating system for mass market consumer electronic devices such as mobile phones. Inflexion Platform enables these manufacturers to bring compelling products to market in less time,” said Neil Henderson, general manager for the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics. “With the launch of the Multimedia Feature Pack, Nucleus OS customers can now deliver high-end multimedia experiences on mass market embedded platforms.”
