GDA Technologies Announces Availability of HiGig IP
San Jose, CA -- September 26, 2007 -- GDA Technologies Inc., a global leader in the area of Electronics Design Services and Silicon IP, announced today the immediate availability of HiGig IP, which implements the formatting of the packet for transmission between a family of Broadcom devices. This HiGig availability will make it easier than ever for system vendors to build effective telecom solutions using Broadcom devices.
GDA Technologies’ offering of the HiGig core is an enhanced version of the current 10G Ethernet MAC core, adding a robust HiGig protocol feature. The basic transmission method utilizes the Preamble field of an Ethernet packet with four bytes of interpacket gap to allow HiGig ports to connect to other HiGig ports. GDA has already successfully implemented the system on Xilinx’s Virtex-5 FPGAs.
“Xilinx is encouraged that GDA Technologies, Inc. developed their HiGig IP on our leading edge Virtex-5 FPGA devices, taking advantage of the device's robust integrated serial links”, noted David Gamba, Director Vertical Marketing and Partnerships at Xilinx. “We look forward to the adoption of the IP by our customers and to our closer partnership with GDA Technologies.”
Ravi Thummarukudy, VP and General Manager of IC and IP division at GDA Technologies, added, “The HiGig IP will provide our customers who plan to use the Broadcom devices a fast time-to-market solution. Of course, GDA has extensive expertise and experience developing high speed interfaces and, in addition to the new HiGig soft IP, also offers high speed interconnect IPs, such as PCI Express (Gen2), Hyper Transport (HT 3.0), RapidIO (Serial and Parallel), and Ethernet MAC (1/10/100 and 10G)."
The HiGig IP is a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Media Access Controller compliant to IEEE 802.3ae with the following major features:
- Full duplex flow control compliant to IEEE 802.3x
- XGMII/XAUI interface on line side - compliant to IEEE 802.3ae
- 64-bit wide
- Xilinx local link interface on system side
- Configurable depth for Rx and Tx FIFOs
- Store-and-forward and cut-through modes of operation
- Jumbo and short frame support
- Stat counters for RMON
- SNMP; 802.3ae
- Maskable interrupts for major hardware events
