Comsys launches ComMAX Reference Design platforms for rapid realization of multimode mobile WiMAX
Reference designs include full integration of communication and application chipsets, with ComMAX Ecosystem partners
September 27, 2007 -- WiMAX World, Chicago -- Comsys Communication and Signal Processing, a leader in wireless baseband solutions, today announced the development of two innovative reference design platforms aimed at companies wishing to develop converged cellular and mobile WiMAX terminals.
Each of the platforms is built around Comsys’ award-winning ComMAX™ multimode baseband processors. The first is a modular platform that allows maximum flexibility, enabling development teams to utilize the full capabilities of the ComMAX processor by integration with various RF and application processors as well as to develop software applications, while the second is designed to provide the most rapid development path and a fast time to market with a fully operational multimode mobile WiMAX/cellular reference design solution. Both platforms feature a full level of hardware and software integration, including the capability for the handset vendor to use a single reference design platform to operate with Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS modules.
This integration includes compatibility with a number of the world’s leading vendors of WiMAX RF, GSM/EDGE RF, application processor, memory and software applications for mobile terminals, who participate as partners in the ComMAX Ecosystem.
“The launch of these reference design platforms is a major milestone in our quest to conquer wireless broadband convergence,” said Avi Sharon, Product Manager at Comsys. “Our customers now have the opportunity to be among the first to market with a converged mobile WiMAX handset that combines the ComMAX processor with a choice of several chipsets. By providing these platforms we enable our customers to focus on their handset differentiation, as well go fast to the market while saving design, integration and certification costs. We invite chipset and software vendors for handset and mobile terminal to join our ComMAX Ecosystem”.
The leadership and innovation of Comsys has been recognized with a string of recent industry awards for ComMAX, including ‘Best Chip Design’ at the Best of WiMAX World Awards 2006, 'Best WIMAX Product or Service' at the 2007 Wireless Broadband Innovation Awards, and Runner-Up in ‘Best Chip Design’ at the Best of WiMAX World Europe 2007.
The ComMAX chipset is a flexible multimode OFDMA baseband processor that enables service continuity between cellular and Mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) networks. ComMAX provides manufacturers of multimode mobile WiMAX terminals with a comprehensive and flexible broadband solution fully compliant with WiMAX Forum Wave 2 requirements, offering MIMO capability, which can operate over multiple bands. Featuring service continuity support between Mobile WiMAX and legacy GSM/EDGE networks, ComMAX provides best-in-class performance and offers substantial cost and power savings.
