Imagination Technologies Launches Latest SDK for Advanced Embedded & Mobile Graphics Technologies
Santa Clara, USA -- October 1, 2007 -- Imagination Technologies – a leader in mobile multimedia technologies – is launching the new POWERVR Insider SDK 2.1 at ARM Developers’ Conference & Design Pavilion 2007 from October 2nd – 4th.
With over a dozen additions to the training section alone, support for the new Motorola Z8 phone, and numerous updates for OpenGL ES 2.0 support, POWERVR Insider SDK 2.1 is a significant update to the leading mobile graphics SDK. It can be downloaded for free at www.powervrinsider.com.
The POWERVR Insider SDK 2.1 enables developers to begin work on games and applications using OpenGL ES 2.0, the API for programmable 3D shader-graphics pipelines, and targeting POWERVR SGX, the next-generation graphics architecture for mobile and embedded devices.
"The POWERVR OpenGL ES 2.0 SDK is a great way to get started developing next generation mobile graphics applications," says Tom Olson, distinguished member of technical staff, Texas Instruments. “It is easy to install and use, and includes a good selection of helpful examples.”
Imagination Technologies has worked with partners from its POWERVR Insider ecosystem programme to facilitate development tools and SDKs which are enabling a revolution in mobile and embedded 3D content.
Components of the POWERVR Insider SDKs are being employed in Elements Interactive's EDGELIB SDK, Khronos’ conformance tests, Notorious Solutions' Mobex3D game engine, NetDimension’s MatrixEngine, Sony Ericsson’s UIQ 3.0 SDK, Texas Instruments’ SDKs and other leading middleware and SDK offerings.
The comprehensive POWERVR Insider 2.1 SDK is a world class tool chain. It addresses every step of the application development flow for leading APIs such as OpenGL ES 1.1, OpenGL ES 2.x and OpenVG 1.x. The comprehensive SDK include tutorials, source code, documentation, extensions specifications, platform abstraction framework and a powerful and extensive tools library.
In the SDK POWERVR Insider has introduced the latest version of PVRShaman, the next generation integrated composition tool for embedded and mobile shader-based graphics, and the latest SDKs for POWERVR across all leading OS and API combinations. Alongside there is the POWERVR OpenGL ES 2.0 PC Emulation environment, designed to allow developers to begin next generation content development now.
Other Tools provided in the POWERVR Insider SDK include:
- PVR VFrame: A Complete PC Emulation environment for mobile application development
- PVR UniSCO Editor: Advanced editor for GLSL and VGP code
- PVRTexTool: Fully featured texture compression tool.
- PVRGeoPOD, PVRCollada2POD, PVRVecEx: Exporters for key formats
The SDKs also provide extensive support for 3rd party content creation tools including Autodesk 3DStudioMAX, Autodesk Maya, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
The first version of PVRTune, which combines a performance analysis driver and remote analysis tool for Windows and Linux, collecting real-time information from a POWERVR SGX hardware system is also now available to licensees as part of the POWERVR DDK.
POWERVR Insider is the only SDK programme already offering full support for OpenGL ES 2.0. The POWERVR OpenGL ES 2.0 SDK enables games developers to begin work on games and applications using OpenGL ES 2.0, the API for programmable 3D shader-based graphics pipelines, and targeting POWERVR SGX, Imagination’s latest generation graphics architecture for mobile and embedded devices.
POWERVR SGX has already been licensed to Intel, NEC, Renesas, Texas Instruments and other industry leaders, with more than 10 chips already in prototype silicon or advanced development. SGX builds on the success of POWERVR MBX, the de facto standard for mobile 3D hardware acceleration today.
