Spansion Licenses ARM SecurCore Processor for MirrorBit HD-SIM Applicability at 45nm and Below
SUNNYVALE, CALIF -- Oct. 19, 2007 -- Spansion Inc. (NASDAQ:SPSN), the world’s largest pure-play provider of Flash memory solutions, today announced that it has licensed an enhanced ARM® SecurCore® SC100™ processor, enabling Spansion to integrate the ARM processor with its MirrorBit® HD-SIM™ family, its Flash memory-based high-capacity SIM card solutions. With this licensing agreement, ARM has significantly expanded the standard addressable memory space of the SC100 processor from 1MB (megabyte) to 1GB (gigabyte), so that single-chip MirrorBit HD-SIM solutions at 45nm and below can take advantage of the additional capacity.
Under this agreement, Spansion can design, manufacture and distribute secure solutions based on the integration of the ARM processor and MirrorBit technology on a single die, which can be easily combined with other third-party technology, to enable differentiated, rich multi-media and contactless applications, such as mobile TV and Near Field Communications (NFC).
“The combination of the ARM SecurCore processor and Spansion’s MirrorBit HD-SIM solution will enable SIM card manufacturers to provide increased flexibility, performance and storage capacity to help mobile network operators, content and application vendors create new differentiating services for their customers,” said Mike Inglis, EVP Sales and Marketing, ARM. “By licensing the enhanced ARM SC100 processor, Spansion can expand the addressable memory space available for its MirrorBit HD-SIM solutions at 45nm even further.”
Integrating Spansion MirrorBit Flash memory with logic, such as the ARM processor, is the foundation for Spansion’s Logic-on-Flash solutions, including MirrorBit HD-SIM, which offers solid performance, low power and a more efficient overall footprint.
“Spansion is collaborating with companies that can bring increased value to our secure Flash memory solutions,” said Marco Roveda, vice president of Marketing in the Security and Advanced Technology Division at Spansion. “By integrating the ARM SC100 processor with our MirrorBit technology, we can enable wireless designers to produce high-capacity, secure and cost-effective solutions, satisfying a broad range of needs for SIM card manufacturers and their customers.”
