MIPS Technologies Joins the Multicore Association to Drive Standards for Next-Generation Embedded Designs
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - November 27, 2007 - MIPS Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard architectures, processor cores and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced it has joined the Multicore Association, a global non-profit organization developing standards to help speed time-to-market for products that feature multi-core implementations.
MIPS Technologies has extensive experience in multi-processing, with the MIPS® architecture being widely used in multi-core systems ranging from deeply embedded, low-power applications to massively parallel supercomputers. As developers increasingly turn to multi-core implementations to either boost performance or decrease power consumption, there is a growing requirement for software interface and tool standards.
According to industry analyst firm Venture Development Corporation (VDC), revenue growth of the market for multi-core CPUs in embedded applications is projected to be strong through 2011. VDC projects 2007 revenues to be $372 million, and estimates 2011 revenues will be more than six times that amount. The firm says that revenues will surpass the billion dollar mark as early as 2009.
