Arasan Chip Systems First to Announce Availability of eMMC IP Cores
New Embedded MMC v.4.3 IP core bridges the gap between designers and low cost NAND technologies.
San Jose, California – February 21, 2008 – Arasan Chip Systems, Inc., “Arasan” a leader in Intellectual Property (IP) solutions – IP cores, Verification IP (VIP), Software Drivers and Stacks and Hardware Solutions, announced today the availability of the Embedded MMC version 4.3 IP core, better known as eMMC. On the heels of the joint announcement by MMCA and JEDEC, Arasan has made the eMMC IP controller readily available. Chip vendors now have immediate access to the latest multimedia controller IP enabling easy adoption.
“MMCA is pleased to see companies like Arasan Chip Systems enable industry development by offering an eMMC v4.3 IP core solution in time to meet increasing market demand,” Adamo Corsi, MMCA marketing co-chair.
“Designers need fast and easy ways to manage mass memory with greater flexibility and a simplified architecture,” said Kevin Yee, Vice President of Marketing at Arasan. “Our enhanced core bridges that gap by providing a ready-to-use solution which leads to an overall shorter time to market.”
eMMC IP Solution
The Arasan eMMC IP core is a fully compliant MMC v4.3 memory controller recently announced by MMCA and JEDEC. Based upon MMC v.4.1/4.2, eMMC is an architecture comprised of an embedded storage solution with MMC interface, flash memory and controller. It will support interface speeds of up to 52MB per second for fast scalable performance. The IP can be used to support x1, x4 or x8 bus widths. The core can run at 1.8v or 3.3v operating voltage. A host system can now use a common memory bus architecture for both embedded and removable non-volatile mass storage. The IP simplifies mass storage designs for portable consumer electronic products. It has a host initiated sleep mode for power savings and a separate power supply for I/O interface and flash. Easily integratable to existing MMC or SD systems, the core supports a wide range of applications in the portable electronics, wireless, navigation and industrial markets.
Pricing and Availability
The Arasan eMMC host IP solution is available immediately for licensing.
