SMSC's MediaLBIP Core Selected for Altera's Automotive Infotainment Development Platform
An integrated macro supports a 3-pin MediaLB connection with up to 1024 FS and interfaces to all MOST speed grades (MOST25, MOST50 and MOST150). MOST technology is a de facto industry standard for automotive multimedia networking of high-bandwidth audio, video and control information or network data, enabling applications to communicate with minimum effort. MediaLB is also designed to provide a simple migration to future MOST network speed grades.
Jointly developed by Altera and TRS-STAR GmbH, the PARIS platform is the industry’s first flexible and scalable development system used in next-generation car infotainment and telematics systems, including head-units, navigation, radios and driver assistance systems. The development platform is available as a fully equipped prototyping kit with a predefined microcontroller and demo applications.
“Much like the goal of the MOST standard, the PARIS system seeks to provide a means for more consumer content to be seamlessly connected inside of the car,” said Dr. Christian Thiel, Vice President and Managing Director of SMSC’s Automotive Infotainment Systems product line. “Together, PARIS and MediaLB can provide a simple and cost-effective means to introduce more dynamic multimedia content into the network backbone so that users get the most out of their infotainment experience.”
“The PARIS infotainment system development platform provides our customers with best-in-class system solutions based on the highest quality IP which can be easily integrated into our leading programmable logic technology,” said Robert Blake, Vice President of the Automotive and Consumer Business Unit at Altera Corporation. “SMSC’s MediaLB IP has already achieved a high adoption in the automotive market and was selected because it helps reduce development time and cost in end-user systems.”
