ARM Extends Design Center In India
Bangalore set to become second largest design center for ARM outside Cambridge, UK headquarters
CAMBRIDGE, UK – March 13, 2008 – ARM today announced the opening of larger offices in India to house expanded operations that will lead to its becoming the second largest design center for the company outside its Cambridge, UK headquarters. His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, The Duke of York KG KCVO, inaugurated ARM’s new Bangalore-based design center at a ceremony to commemorate the occasion. ARM India is expected to grow its staff from the current 350 people, with the expanded team of engineers focusing on next-generation ARM® technology for advanced digital products.
Speaking on the occasion, ARM’s chief operating officer, Tudor Brown, said, “This expansion reinforces the critical role played by India in ARM’s worldwide operations. Since ARM began operations in India in 2004, the India design center has become increasingly important in harnessing skilled technical talent to develop leading technology solutions for the digital world. Going forward, India offers ARM tremendous opportunities to grow and expand its scope of product development activities.”
ARM’s semiconductor Partners have shipped more than 10 billion ARM Powered® processors to date – currently at a rate approaching 100 every second. ARM delivers high-performance, low-power processors, graphics engines, physical IP, peripherals, software and tools that are at the heart of more than 90 percent of the world’s mobile devices, as well as being the architectural basis of applications in the wireless, networking, security and automotive spaces. ARM’s Indian operations are aimed at creating high-value semiconductor intellectual property (IP), products and solutions that address these markets, as well as offering services for companies developing products based on the ARM architecture.
“ARM is a young and growing company. The ARM India design center is the fastest growing within ARM worldwide and is truly a microcosm of the ARM global family, since key technical functions including physical IP design, processor design, testing and embedded software design are performed here,” said Anil Gupta, managing director, India Operations, ARM. “Its role in contributing to global product development and adding highly skilled technical value will grow as India becomes an increasingly important semiconductor market.”
ARM Announces “Anvas”, Pledges Support for Underprivileged Children
ARM today also announced its commitment to support underprivileged children, with its corporate social responsibility program “Anvas”, which means “to reach out” in Sanskrit. With a focus on making a positive impact by supporting a wide range of socioeconomic, educational and health initiatives, ARM has volunteered to work with Ashwini Charitable Trust, Sahasra Deepika Institute for Education and the Marathahalli Government School in Bangalore.
ARM today committed 6000 hours of ARM employees’ voluntary work with the three organizations over the next two years. In addition to working for children’s education and empowerment, ARM will contribute a financial amount matching the personal contributions of its employees, to encourage Anvas.
“We offer a platform to our employees for giving back to society. With a large, young and dynamic workforce, volunteers are keen to lend their time and energy,” said Bill Parsons, executive vice president for human resources, ARM. “We encourage our employees to visit the NGOs even during office hours. We believe time is our most valuable investment. The volunteers help the beneficiaries unlock their creativity and enable them to join the mainstream education process.”
