MIPS Technologies to Showcase Digital Entertainment, Networking and Microcontroller Innovations at ESC 2008
EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, SAN JOSE, Calif., - April 14, 2008 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NasdaqGS: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard architectures, processors and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking, wireless communications and business applications, will showcase key customer technologies at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) Silicon Valley 2008, April 15 - 17. Cavium Networks, Microchip Technology, PMC-Sierra and RMI Corporation will display and demonstrate the latest solutions in home networking, communications, microcontroller (MCU) applications and the digital home.
Cavium Networks will showcase its OCTEON Multi-core MIPS64® processor family with 1 to 16 MIPS64 cores. Cavium's MIPS® processors are used by multiple Tier-1 networking, wireless and storage vendors, demonstrating continued adoption of the MIPS architecture in these applications. Cavium's MIPS processors are supported by over 100 Ecosystem partners offering ready-to-use hardware in ATCA, appliance and access gateway form-factors and embedded software operating systems and applications. The OCTEON MIPS processor family offers leading performance, low-power and advanced hardware acceleration, and scales from 20Gbps in performance to entry-level MIPS processors for home and SOHO markets in a fully software compatible manner.
MCU market leader Microchip Technology will demonstrate its 32-bit PIC32 MCU family, based on the MIPS32® M4K® core and featuring MIPS' IP cores for Full Speed USB 2.0 On-the-Go (OTG) functionality. Microchip will show several demos, including a PIC32 MCU running at 80 MHz. Attendees can also check out Microchip's PIC32 Starter Kit, the fastest route to leveraging 32-bit PIC32 MCUs for increased system memory capacity, performance and functionality.
Long-time MIPS licensee PMC-Sierra will display a wide range of solutions, including silicon products with reference boards and software development kits. In addition, the company will display turnkey network attached storage (NAS) solutions for small and medium businesses (SMB), and a digital home gateway enabled by PMC-Sierra's SoC family driven by multi-threaded MIPS32® 34K® cores.
RMI Corporation (RMI®) will highlight the advantages of its multi-core, multi-threaded XLR ProcessorTM Family for networked applications. On display from RMI will be a Continuous Computing FlexPacket ATCA-PP50 board for XLR-BasedTM 3G wireless and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) applications, featuring dual XLR732 multi-core MIPS processors. RMI's single and multi-core Thread ProcessorTM solutions provide the ultimate in performance and power efficiency at every price point.
"Our customers continue to innovate and lead the industry in advanced SoC designs, from low-power microcontrollers leveraging our analog and processor IP cores, to the highest performing systems using multi-core and multi-threaded technologies," said Jack Browne, vice president of marketing, Processor Business Group, MIPS Technologies. "As the exclusive supplier of both processor and analog IP for the digital living room, connected home and beyond, we're focused on teaming with our broad array of licensees to help build their businesses and provide the best possible solutions for their next-generation designs."
Attendees can also hear from MIPS Technologies during the ESC educational conference. Radhika Thekkath, director of business and strategic planning, will present "Embedded Applications of Multi-threading" on Friday, April 18th, from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. in Convention Center Room B1. Thekkath will also present "Key Ingredients of an Effective Patent Application," as part of the concurrently held Intellectual Property Symposium, on Tuesday, April 15th, from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. in the Sacramento Room, San Jose Fairmont Hotel.
ESC 2008 will be held April 14 - 18 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, Calif. Exhibit hours are Tuesday, April 15 from 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, April 16 from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.; and Thursday, April 17 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
