Global Unichip Announces First Full Service SiP Production Flow in the Fabless ASIC Industry
With almost 10 million SiP shipment, GUC SiP service leads to a fast, low cost, and low risk way to realize products with high embedded memory requirements
Hsinchu, Taiwan -- April 14, 2008 –Global Unichip Corp. (GUC; TW:3443), a leading SoC design foundry and an ASIC design service provider today announced the industry’s first full service SiP (System in Package) production flow. This flow will include KGD (Known Good Die) survey suggestion, SoC/SiP cost analysis, SoC/Package Co-design, and test solution to provide a comprehensive solution to customers. It is the first step of a series of efforts to transform GUC’s abundant SiP project experiences into formal service. The next version of GUC SiP production flow integrating RF and analog SiP service capability will be ready by the end of this year.
With experiences of almost 10 million SiP shipment so far, GUC SiP applications include Timing Controller, cell phone, car camera, mobile TV, multimedia, and networking. GUC’s SiP production flow will be used to further strengthen its SiP service capability in a fast, low cost, and low risk way to realize products with high embedded memory requirements. Specializing in deep-submicron technology and complicated SoC projects, GUC’s SiP service opens up a new way for worldwide customers who pursue time-to-tape-out, time-to-market, and time-to-volume.
“GUC has always been striving to provide our customers with optimized solutions; both SoC and SiP are options. SoC wins out at lower unit cost as embedded memory size is not too large, while SiP prevails when customers need to reduce development time and cost with large embedded memories,” said Jim Lai, president and COO of GUC. “We have shipped nearly 10 million units of SiP products to customers—applications ranging from handheld consumer devices to high-end networking chips. With this experience of SiP projects, we are able to learn and condense these precious lessons to deliver the SiP service with lowest risk. GUC also works closely with KGD vendors and the leading substrate and package providers to conquer issues encountered during implementations. It is essential for GUC to rapidly address a wide range of customer design requirements and applications.”
As industry advances and consumer’s demand changes constantly, GUC has been focusing on delivering flexible solutions, including both SiP and SoC services, to help customers cope with the end product competition. GUC’s full services of SiP production flow and SoC design service, starting from GPrime Platform development, IP sourcing/integration, DFM, DFT, design implementation to turnkey service and global logistics/supply chain management, offer a One-Stop-Shopping solution needed by worldwide customers for their complicated nanometer SoC projects.
