Quickturn Partners With Simutech to Develop Next-Generation System-On-Chip Rapid Prototyping Solutions
SAN JOSE, Calif.----Feb. 21, 2000--Quickturn, a company of Cadence Design Systems, Inc., and Simutech have signed an exclusive agreement to develop a next-generation, high-performance rapid prototyping platform (RPP) solution for system-on-a-chip (SOC) development.
Simutech's technology will be a strong complement to Quickturn's core emulation business and Cadence Design Systems' simulation and hardware-software co-verification business. Under the agreement, Quickturn(TM) will develop application-focused verification environments on top of Simutech's patented intellectual property (IP) and internet-based verification platform.
The move toward more highly integrated and higher performance application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and SOCs is driving the electronics industry to develop solutions that will dramatically improve customers' SOC and IP design re-use methodologies. The partnership between Quickturn and Simutech will spearhead this effort by developing new products to support SOC rapid prototyping. This includes support for what is now recognized as ``platform-based design'' and block-based design methodologies.
``We see significant growth in IP-based SOC design architectures. The three key capabilities our customers are looking for are IP evaluation, hardware-software co-development, and full SOC verification. Our partnership with Simutech will allow us to deliver a solution built from the ground up to meet these new market requirements,'' stated George Zafiropoulos, Quickturn's vice president of marketing. ``Quickturn's strength in developing and delivering application-specific solutions for the wireless, networking, multimedia, and computing markets will allow us to deliver a tailored solution to meet each customer's needs.''
``By partnering with the leader in high-performance verification, our technology will spread to a broader market faster and accelerate the availability of a complete solution,'' stated Steve Glaser, Simutech's vice president of marketing. ``The combination of Simutech's IP and internet-based technology with Quickturn's application-focused environments, software, and services will provide an immediate step function in productivity for SOC development.''
