Mentor Graphics Expands Nucleus Platform Solutions to Freescale i.MX31 Processor for Multimedia Applications
WILSONVILLE, Ore., June 13, 2008 – Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) today announced expansion of its platform solutions program by adding support for the Freescale i.MX31 Product Development Kit (PDK) platform based on the i.MX31 multimedia applications processor. Based on the Nucleus® Operating System (OS), a powerful user interface (UI) engine, and a full complement of development tools, Nucleus platform solutions offer integrated, validated and optimized support for reference hardware to help jump start the development of portable electronic devices.
“The Freescale i.MX31 applications processor is designed to deliver market-leading performance per watt, making it ideally suited for use across a broad range of portable devices from cell phones and multimedia players to portable navigation devices,” noted Aaron Shagrin, director of business development, Freescale. “Nucleus OS unlocks the full power of the i.MX31 and delivers excellent real time performance while keeping resource usage to a minimum.”
Mentor Graphics has optimized the Nucleus OS software on the Freescale i.MX31 applications processor to deliver an out-of-the-box solution aimed to get customers up and running quickly on the i.MX31 PDK. For device manufacturers, the Nucleus-based platform translates into achieving accelerated design cycles, while fully focusing their development resources on delivering a differentiated product. The advanced UI engine of the Nucleus-based platform leverages the i.MX31’s embedded 3D graphics accelerator, enabling high-end user experiences – incorporating advanced visual effects such as three-dimensional icons, animations and screen transitions – to be designed, tested and modified easily.
“Nucleus OS has evolved into a complete and versatile software platform that cuts significant time and risk out of product development,” said Neil Henderson, general manager, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division. “We are pleased to offer optimized support for the i.MX31 PDK, helping Freescale customers create innovative, highly differentiated products in less time.”
