Eureka Technology Lowers the Cost of Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMedia Card (MMC) Development
Los Altos, California -- June 16th, 2008 - Eureka Technology Inc., a leading intellectual property (IP) core provider, today announced the availability of the low cost Secure Digital (SD memory, SDIO, SDHC), and MultiMedia Card (MMC) development kit, a complete SD/MMC host development platform that lowers the cost of SD/MMC host hardware and software development.
The SD Host Development Board features SD/MMC socket to accept SD/MMC card device, PCI bus, on board memory and a Xilinx® Spartan®-3 FPGA. The development board also comes with Eureka’s SD host controller IP core pre-programmed into the on-board platform Flash device. Once connected to the system’s PCI bus, the board is automatically recognized by the system as an SD host controller. A memory card is connected to the development board’s SD/MMC socket and is automatically mapped to the file system as a hard drive.
“The SD Host Development System signifies of our commitment to provide a complete SD/MMC solution to our customer," said Simon Lau, president of Eureka Technology. “This development kit allows our customers to co-develop the hardware and software of any SD/MMC based system quickly and economically.”
“Xilinx Spartan-3 Generation customers can experience the best of both worlds with higher performance at much lower cost than competitive devices,” said Mark Moran, senior strategic marketing manager for High Volume Products at Xilinx. “Our low-cost FPGAs provide an efficient solution for the SD development platform. We’re pleased that developers such as Eureka Technology, are working to optimize the Spartan-3 architecture to its full potential.”
The SD host controller IP core included in the SD development kit supports the latest SD specification (version 2.0) and high capacity SD card (SDHC). The standard SD host controller register set and PCI configuration register settings allow the board to be used with Microsoft Windows operating system without any bus or device driver. For a system that does not already include SD bus support, Eureka provides free source code to help customers with driver development. The use of the SD Host Development Board, SD host controller IP core and the free driver source code significantly shorten the development time of any SD host system.
