Silterra Selects Avant! as Provider of Intellectual Property Cell Libraries
SUNNYVALE, Calif.----Feb. 14, 2000--Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., a full-service semiconductor manufacturing provider, announced today it has selected Avant! Corporation (Nasdaq:AVNT), the leading provider of solutions for very deep submicron (VDSM) designs, to provide Libra-Visa Libraries for Silterra's 0.25 micron and 0.18 micron process technologies.
In a multi-million dollar deal between the two companies, Silterra will receive the distribution rights to these libraries. Silterra will offer the use of these silicon-proven libraries to their customers and design partners.
The Avant! cell libraries are designed in conjunction with the development of Silterra process introductions and optimized with Avant!'s SinglePass tool suites. As a result, customers are expected to see a substantial reduction in time-to-market and ensure first time accuracy of silicon.
``Silicon-proven libraries, coupled with Avant!'s stellar reputation, give designers and fabless companies assurance that we are offering very high performance solutions, using some of the most advanced processes available,'' stated Victor Kwong, vice president of marketing at Silterra. ``Avant!'s libraries and Silterra's technology offerings will give our customers world-class manufacturing processes that will greatly reduce time-to-market pressures.''
The cell libraries for 0.25 micron and 0.18 micron are available to Silterra customers immediately through bridge capacity with LSI Logic. Silterra's full-service, state-of-the-art facility is expected to produce its first, eight-inch wafers in 4Q 2000, ramping up to 30,000 eight-inch wafers per month by 2002.
``This alliance underscores Silterra's commitment to be at the forefront of our industry by providing the most comprehensive, customer-driven solutions,'' stated Steve Della Rocchetta, executive vice president of sales and marketing, Silterra. ``Through this agreement, we are once again demonstrating our strategy of partnering with industry leaders to add premier services to our solutions, ensuring that our customers receive the advanced technology they want and need.''
``Silterra has impressed us with its innovation and commitment to its customers. We are pleased that our products were selected after careful evaluation,'' said Gerald C. Hsu, chairman, president and CEO of Avant! Corporation. ``Our foundry customers have a vital need for superior solutions to increase manufacturing yield and lower production costs. Our objective is to provide the best-in-class libraries and tools for our customers and to help relieve time-to-market pressures.''
The Avant! relationship is one of many relationships Silterra plans to announce to ensure their customers of complete IC manufacturing solutions. Subsequent announcements will follow to demonstrate Silterra customers will have the technology, services and cell libraries to be competitive in their dedicated markets.
