D&R confirms the opening of it's Internet IP Trading Centre
Santa Clara (DesignCON 2000) - February 1, 2000 ** After a first announcement at the December International Workshop on IP Based Design (EE Times, Peter Clarke, January 3 2000) , D&R confirms the opening of the first Internet IP Trading Centre. Through this initiative, D&R strengthens its catalyst role in IP Business both in the IP Provider and consumer perspectives.
D&R will follow a twofold strategy pushed respectively by the market demand and by the IP provider offers.
Driven by the market demand D&R will extend the successful IP Search/Find Club by following up the strategic "Wanted IPs" demand displayed daily on D&R web site. D&R will identify corresponding IP offers from IP providers and help trigger the actual business deal.
On the other hand IP providers are welcome to co-operate in listing their products in a comprehensive e business catalogue to enable D&R to promote more deeply their IPs. The leads arising out of this listing will be qualified by D&R and followed up to help trigger the business deal.
Such an initiative will definitively leverage the IP business by shortening the business decision delay. D&R has thus given, priority to the business assistance with respect to a broker role that may only be reconsidered in a next step.
In addition D&R goes further in business assistance by contributing to a major market need namely IP quality assessment. For IP quality assessment, D&R is proposing a comprehensive set of services ranging from OpenMORE rating, test coverage evaluation, hardware prototyping to formal verification. Priority will be given to FPGA mapping and validation on hardware platform. Both test coverage enhancement and property checking possibly in a remote way through the internet are the highest priority.
"We are very glad to get more and more business support from D&R and we are eager to use these new trading facilities " said Thomas Oberthuer Product Manager IP of SICAN GmbH.
On the quality assessment side various players offer co-operation to make this initiative as broad and successful as possible to fulfil the market demand
"As an early D&R partner, APTIX is very supportive of this effort and is willing to offer its platform capabilities to contribute to IP validation market needs" added AMR Mohsen CEO of APTIX .
"We are more than happy to join this unique effort in IP Qualification. Jointly with D&R we will offer advanced techniques such as model checking as well as efficient Logic Equivalence checking services. This should lead to "Trusted IP's" and open a new ERA in IP business." said Huy Nam Nguyen CEO of Metasymbiose SA.
Obviously ,in this second step, D&R is willing to demonstrate aggressively its IP Business catalyst role by broadening its offer; "Actual trading based on internet forums together with quality assessment should made our IP catalyst role more and more useful to the world wide SOC community" claimed Prof.Gabriele Saucier founder of D&R .
