LG chooses Coreworks' audio Sample Rate Converter (SRC) for their next generation mobile devices and digital TV products
Corework's CWda52 family of asynchronous SRC's are proven to lower system's bill-of-material cost, while maintaining highest fidelity audio signal
Lisbon, Portugal -- August 14, 2008 -- Coreworks S.A., a leading provider of audio and video accelerator engines, today announced that LG Electronics a premier global force in electronics, information and communications technology, has licensed Coreworks CWda52 family of Sample Rate Converters for their low power mobile devices and high performance digital television products.
Traditionally Sample Rate Converters (SRC) have been offered as discrete devices until now. For the first time in the industry, Coreworks offers SRC IP for integration into SoCs, reducing the cost and power consumption of next generation devices.
“We were looking for silicon-proven sample rate converter IP and found Coreworks' solution to meet our application's performance and form factor requirements,” said, Mr. Ian Lee, Chief Design Engineer, System IC Business Team at LG Electronics. “Coreworks ability to address a broad range of applications by offering different flavors of their cores was a key factor in our selection criteria.”
“Coreworks SRC's superior architecture in addressing Total Harmonic Distortion plus Noise (THD+N) and jitter has resulted in the world's most optimum and high performance audio solution,” said, Jose de Sousa, Coreworks CEO. “We are extremely pleased that LG, a world leader in Consumer Electronics, has chosen our technology for their next generation high volume and high end products.”
CWda52 is Coreworks' multi-channel asynchronous audio Sample Rate Converter. This core can be used to interface digital audio equipments operating at different sample rates. CWda52 is designed for systems requiring very high quality—in terms of harmonic distortion and noise. The SRC can perform most common sample rate conversions with less than -120 dB Total Harmonic Distortion plus Noise (THD+N), and a Dynamic range of 131 dB. The SRC offers industry standard interfaces, such as TDM, parallel TDM, I2S, SPDIF and more.
The Coreworks' family of IP building blocks is offered in both FPGA and ASICs. For more information please visit www.coreworks-sa.com

About Coreworks®
Coreworks® S.A. was founded in 2001 in Lisbon, Portugal with the vision of revolutionizing the DSP industry. Coreworks provides high-performance, reconfigurable HW/SW DSP acceleration solutions for multi-standard communications and multimedia applications. Coreworks' IPs have been instigated in a wide variety of products, and in various process geometries. Coreworks' solutions alleviate S/W algorithm bottlenecks of many demanding audio, video and communication applications by efficiently partitioning the signal processing algorithms between the host processor and Coreworks' SideWorks™, eliminating the need for expensive and power hungry DSP devices or multi-processor alternatives.
SideWorks™ and AudioWorks™ are Coreworks' proven, low-power and area optimized IPs. Coreworks uses proprietary tools to create and program Application Specific DSP Accelerator IPs targeting the emerging applications such as satellite radio, DTV, IP-Phone, MP3, AC-3, HD audio, and other mobile device applications, soft radio, communication gateways and more.
