MIPS Technologies Expands HDMI Portfolio with Industry’s First 45nm IP Cores; 90nm IP in Silicon
Company's 65nm HDMI IP Cores Nominated for Elektra 08 European Electronics Industry Award
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - September 29, 2008 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NasdaqGS: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard architectures, processors and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced an expansion of its HDMI IP portfolio, with the industry's first 45nm IP cores (Controller + PHY), as well as 90nm IP cores in silicon. The company also announced that its 65nm HDMI IP is now silicon-proven, and was recently named as a finalist for Embedded System Product of the Year in the annual Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards.
HDMI has emerged as the dominant digital interface for a wide array of consumer electronics, representing the de facto standard for creating high-bandwidth, streamlined connections between digital devices. According to technology market research firm iSuppli Corporation, HDMI-enabled equipment will grow to 772.8 million units in 2012, rising at a compound annual growth rate of 32 percent from 193 million units in 2007.
"Following our launch earlier this year of the world's first HDMI IP cores in 65nm, we have already licensed the cores to several customers, and the IP will soon go into production, clearly demonstrating how HDMI IP can speed time-to-market," said Luis Laranjeira, director of Embedded Peripherals and Digital IP, Analog Business Group, MIPS Technologies. "For future products, we can easily port our IP to other foundries, offering customers flexibility of choice. Our impressive track record in first-time-right porting, along with excellent silicon results, further decrease risk for our customers."
MIPS Technologies' HDMI interface IP (Controller + PHY) is available in the world's major foundries for both transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) functions. MIPS' HDMI IP cores now support all video modes compliant to CEA-861-D, as well as the I2S and S/PDIF digital audio formats.
MIPS Technologies' HDMI IP cores are uniquely optimized for HDMI connectivity in low power, portable transmit applications-including digital still cameras, camcorders, portable media players, game consoles and cell phones, as well as digital home receive applications such as high-definition DTVs and display units, A/V receivers and set-top boxes. The HDMI IP solutions are backed by a qualified connectivity IP engineering team and dedicated support team with deep expertise in HDMI connectivity and numerous foundry technologies.
With its HDMI portfolio, proven USB solutions available down to 45nm, and other connectivity IP solutions under development-including DisplayPort, MIPI (Mobile Industry Processor Interface) and UWB (Ultra-wideband) solutions-MIPS Technologies is the broadest supplier of connectivity, multimedia and wireless interface IP for consumer devices worldwide. The company leads the industry in rapidly porting IP across a broad array of foundries in leading processes, supporting preferred foundries for both IDMs and fabless semiconductor companies.
