GDA Technologies Announces Availability of Bali Reference Board Based on Freescale's MPC5121e Processor
Embedded System Conference, Boston, MA; October 30, 2008 - GDA Technologies, Inc. (San Jose), a fast growing IP and Electronic Design Services (EDS) subsidiary of L&T Infotech, Ltd. today announced the availability of the Bali Reference Board equipped with Freescale’s MPC5121e processor. With 32 Kbyte instruction cache and 32 Kbyte data cache, a double-precision FPU, and instruction and data MMU, the MPC5121e is a powerful processor designed for automotive, industrial, and multi-market applications. Based on the scalable e300 Power Architecture™ processor core, the MPC5121e is designed to run at 400MHz and 760 MIPS.
The MPC5121e processor is designed to be used in automotive telematics systems, building automation, medical diagnostics and ultrasound applications, surveillance and security systems, and digital home and gaming products. The processor includes the MBX Lite 2D/3D graphics engine that supports the 3D texturing and includes PowerVR geometry processing acceleration. The PowerVR MBX Lite's unique tile-based rendering architecture provides powerful, efficient performance and is implemented with a 128-bit interface to optimize byte transfers on the memory interface. The multi-core architecture of the processor provides a perfect balance between low operating power consumption and high performance.
The Bali Reference Board represents a complete system for the development community. In addition to the MPC5121e host CPU, its feature set includes 512MB DDR-II SDRAM memory at 400MHz, up to 128 MB NOR Flash Memory (for boot flash image), up to 2GB of NAND Flash Memory (with boot compatibility), 80 GB 1.8” HDD with PATA interface, 1024 x 600 TFT LCD module with LVDS input, Realtek RTL8201 10/100BT PHY, two high speed USB 2.0 OTG Ports, 802.11 B/G and Blue tooth wireless module, AC’97 audio codec with built in touch screen support , I2C based EEPROM for configuration and temperature sensor (optional), and I2C based RTC for clock/calendar function.
The Bali Reference Board also includes a dual radio module conforming to IEEE 802.11b/g wireless LAN and Bluetooth version 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate, providing the best of both wireless LAN and Bluetooth in a compact package. The feature set for WLAN includes IEEE 802.11i security, Quality of Service (QoS) traffic prioritization for VoIP and multimedia applications, and ultra low power sleep mode. The feature set for Bluetooth includes v2.0 with EDR for high throughput along with real-time data profiles for audio packets. An internal Bluetooth signaling interface along with AFH is utilized for enhanced co-existence for the two radios sharing the same 2.4 GHz spectrum. Linux Board Support Package for the kit includes Uboot , support for booting from IDE drives and Debian installer.
“The addition of the MPC5121e-based Bali reference platform to GDA’s growing ecosystem of tools and development platforms underscores their commitment to Freescale technology,” said Mike Bryars, manager of mobileGT Processor Operations at Freescale Semiconductor. “GDA’s new reference platform will further facilitate the ongoing adoption of the MPC5121e processor for next-generation automotive, industrial and medical applications. The Bali Reference Design kit provides a comprehensive solution for accelerating application development cycles for our MPC5121e customers.”
"GDA has a history in bringing reference solutions to the development community enabling a faster time to market with significantly reduced risk," said Gopa Periyadan, Vice President & General Manager of the System and Software unit at GDA Technologies. "Automotive, industrial, and medical products based on high performance processors such as the MPC5121e processor are increasingly being developed in the market. With our flexible global business engagement model and our expertise with Freescale processors, specifically the MPC5121e, our customers across all those industries benefit from leveraging our design services skill sets and the MPC5121e reference platform in a cost effective manner."
