LSI Logic's PCI-to-Ultra2 SCSI Host Adapter Board Boosts Performance With 64-Bit Addressing and Dual Address Cycles
MILPITAS, Calif., Dec. 6 -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), the System on a Chip Company®, today introduced an upgraded PCI-to-Ultra2 SCSI host adapter board (HAB) that provides users with increased memory addressing capability and improved signal integrity. Building on the industry's first Ultra2 SCSI host adapter, the new Symbios(TM) SYM8953U board complies with Microsoft Corporation's PC99 certification requirements, permitting systems that take advantage of this solution to carry the Microsoft® logo.
``This single-channel board builds on its leadership heritage by offering 64-bit addressing through dual address cycles (DAC), which allows access to greater memory spaces. At the same time, we've taken advantage of new technologies that greatly improve the reliability of the cable signal in an increasingly noisy back-office environment,'' said Bill Wuertz, vice president and general manager, LSI Logic Storage Components Division.
The SYM8953U host adapter board is RAID-ready, and features LSI Logic's LVDLink(TM) universal transceivers and TolerANT(TM) technology for maximum signal reliability. The host adapter supports PCI Power Management 1.1 and Hot plug PCI. In addition, the controller now handles mismatches in SCSI data phase transfers without interrupting the CPU, which decreases CPU utilization.
The LSI Logic complete Symbios HAB solution includes powerful software utilities and drivers. Developed in-house and certified by major operating system vendors, the Symbios Storage Device Management System (SDMS) software is based on industry standards and makes HAB installation and configuration tasks fast and easy. SDMS drivers, certified by Microsoft WHQL, Novell Labs, SCO and Sun Solaris, are compatible with all major OS platforms and are continually updated to incorporate new operating systems, features and upgrades. The SDMS software suite is provided on a CD.
Price and Availability
For OEM evaluation, the Symbios SYM8953U host adapter board is currently available as either a board-only solution or as a complete, out-of-the-box kit. Each kit includes the SYM8953U, hardware and software user's guides, software utilities and drivers for most major operating systems, and an internal 5-position, SE Fast/Ultra - Ultra2 cable with built-in LVD auto-termination. The SYM8953U host adapter is available for under $90 per unit when ordered in OEM quantities.
