NXP Semiconductors signs agreement with Imagination for graphics technology
November 11, 2008 -- Imagination Technologies Group plc (LSE:IMG; "Imagination") a leader in System-on-Chip Intellectual Property ("SoC IP") - reports that NXP Semiconductors (“NXP”) has signed a multi-use licence agreement for a member of Imagination's POWERVR SGX graphics IP family. This agreement is initially focussed on SoC devices targeting digital consumer electronics applications including HDTV and Set-Top Box (STB).
Christos Lagomichos, executive vice president and general manager of the Home business unit of NXP says: “NXP sees that graphics will increasingly become a mandatory requirement for TV and STB as consumer expectations for advanced user interface (UI), graphics rich applications such as games, and Internet content, continue to grow. This is a textbook example of the benefits of combining the best of internal and external IP assets to deliver the next level of multimedia experience to consumers.”
Hossein Yassaie, CEO, Imagination says: "We are delighted to be working with NXP, one of the top chip suppliers in the TV and STB market. NXP has proven to have the strategy to deliver leading solutions for the rapidly evolving ‘Home’ market. By combining its highly respected in-house video, audio and display technologies with Imagination’s proven expertise in high performance graphics NXP is creating a solution capable of driving the market and redefining consumer expectations and enjoyment.”
This new licence with NXP extends the relationship which has previously included a licence for Imagination's POWERVR MBX technology.
