Imagination Technologies To Demonstrate POWERVR Accelerated Multimedia Browser Experience
Accelerating all aspects of the browser’s graphics and video experience is a key goal for Imagination, because of the significant performance gains and power saving advantages that can be realised in battery-powered devices using Imagination’s technology. Imagination regards the Adobe Flash® Platform as a critical component for delivering a superb consumer experience on Mobile Internet Devices (MID) and other mobile products, and has been working closely with Adobe’s engineering teams to develop acceleration solutions for Flash Lite, and the desktop Flash Player, for over two years.
Tony King-Smith, VP marketing, Imagination Technologies, says: “Our POWERVR graphics and video processing technologies – which are now shipping in over 100 cellphones, 50 MIDs and leading portable media players utilising chips from our key partners, including Intel and Texas Instruments – have the ability to deliver significant enhancements to the mobile Internet experience. We are delighted to be working with Adobe - whose industry-leading Flash technology is a vital enabler of any rich browser experience - to show how beneficial hardware acceleration can be for the enhancement of Internet browsers and other applications rendering the latest Flash based content.”
“Hardware graphics acceleration can bring significant benefits to the mobile Internet experience,” says Danny Winokur, senior director for Business Development, Flash Platform at Adobe. “Our work with Imagination allows mobile users to enjoy richer, interactive web content based on the Adobe Flash Platform anytime, anywhere.”
POWERVR graphics and video acceleration technologies can accelerate any video and graphics content delivered using industry standards such as the Adobe Flash Platform. The acceleration of Flash Lite is important in many mobile devices such as phones and portable media players, while for the complete mobile Internet device experience POWERVR will enable acceleration of Flash based web content running on the full Adobe Flash Player.
The Adobe Flash Platform is the de facto standard for delivering breakthrough applications, content and video on the Web. Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Flash Lite are on over 98 percent of connected computers and more than 800 million devices, and deliver more than 80 percent of Web video worldwide, ensuring that content and applications are presented consistently in the format users want.
