ON Semiconductor to Offer New Intellectual Property Blocks for Industry-Standard Interfaces, Microcontrollers and Peripherals
PHOENIX -- March 16, 2009 -- ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN - News), a leading global supplier of high performance, energy efficient, silicon solutions, today announced the expansion of its intellectual property (IP) portfolio with the addition of more than 30 silicon-proven IP blocks. Customers developing application specific integrated circuits (ASIC) and system-on-chip (SoC) solutions based on the company’s digital and mixed-signal process technologies will now have access to expanded IP for industry-standard interfaces, microcontrollers and peripherals.
Customers for the new IP operate across a variety of industry sectors and application areas including military and aerospace, networking and wireless communications, consumer electronics, automotive and industrial automation. Among the more than 30 silicon-proven IP blocks being added to ON Semiconductor’s portfolio are solutions for industry-standard high-speed interfaces, such as USB 2.0, Ethernet, PCMCIA and PCI. A variety of microcontroller and peripheral options will also be available.
The new synthesizable IP is process-independent, allowing the blocks to be implemented across a variety of ON Semiconductor’s existing and planned ASIC technologies, where technically feasible, from 90 nanometers (nm) to 0.5 micrometer (µm). ON Semiconductor can also offer additional design flexibility by tailoring individual blocks to address non-standard requirements.
In addition to enhancing the capabilities of custom ASICs, ON Semiconductor also plans to incorporate the new IP blocks into future generations of its application specific standard products (ASSPs).
“Access to silicon-proven, reusable IP is more important than ever as OEMs and design houses look to focus their own engineering efforts on those elements of system architecture that maximize competitive advantage,” said Keith Jackson, ON Semiconductor president and CEO. “The launch of these new blocks demonstrates our commitment to provide proven technologies that enhance functionality and performance, shorten development and reduce time-to-market. Additionally, process independence and the flexibility to modify the blocks further supports our ability to deliver the optimum ASIC and SoC solutions to our customers.”
