MOSAID Signs First Deal for New Communications Patents in Record Time
OTTAWA, Ontario – April 30, 2009- MOSAID Technologies Inc. (TSX:MSD) today announced that it has granted the first license to its new portfolio of 300 communications patents, which it purchased in February 2009. The five-year term license was granted to a U.S.-based provider of Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchanges (IP-PBXs), Voice over IP (VoIP) telephones and related services. Financial details of the agreement are confidential.
"Monetizing a new patent portfolio within 10 weeks of acquisition is a record for our Company," said John Lindgren, President and Chief Executive Officer, MOSAID. "We are now generating licensing revenues from four distinct portfolios - memory, wireless, microcomponents and as of today, communications patents. This new deal is further evidence that MOSAID's licensing diversification strategy is gaining momentum."
Under the terms of the agreement, the unnamed U.S. company, an emerging player in the IP telephony market, is licensed to certain of MOSAID's 300 communications patents. The new portfolio relates to wired and wireless communications products and systems, including Power over Ethernet (PoE), VoIP, IP-PBXs, IP Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (IP-DSLAMs), cable modems, and Asynchronous DSL (ADSL) modems.
"These proven, tested patents are ready to be licensed into a wide range of large and growing markets, from PoE data switches and IP telephony equipment to home networking products," added Lindgren.
Extreme Networks Takes Wireless License
MOSAID also announced today that Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR) is the seventh company to take a license to its wireless patent portfolio. According to the terms of agreement, Extreme Networks' WiFi-enabled products are now licensed under MOSAID's patents for a four-year term. Based in Santa Clara, California, Extreme Networks provides converged Ethernet networks, including WiFi-enabled wireless access points, which support data, voice and video for enterprises and service providers.
