CYIT Selects Vivante to Meet the GPU Needs of TD-SCDMA Wireless Devices
“The first 3G technology to be deployed in China, TD-SCDMA is growing,” said Joseph Byrne, an analyst at The Linley Group and author of “A Guide to Wireless Handset Processors.” China Mobile has announced that it will invest $20 billion in TD-SCDMA over the next three years and cover all Chinese cities by 2011. At the same time, the operator is providing $85 million to fund development of TD-SCDMA handsets and other terminals. “Investment in TD-SCDMA is a precursor to rolling out 4G TD-LTE technology. TD-LTE will deliver higher data rates, enabling use of higher-performance smart-phones and other mobile devices,” stated Byrne.
CYIT TECHNOLOGIES selected a Vivante GPU core for its unique ability to deliver smart-phone caliber user interface capabilities in a very efficient footprint and with low power consumption, making it ideal for the cost-sensitive, high bandwidth 3G baseband processing and media-rich applications enabled by TD-SCDMA. “The rapid expansion of TD-SCDMA enabled networks requires a high functionality handset platform at a very low cost,” said Prof. Zheng, Vice President of CYIT TECHNOLOGIES. “The superior end-user experience enabled by Vivante GPU cores, combined with the graphics expertise of the Vivante team was a winning solution for CYIT TECHNOLOGIES platforms. We look forward to collaborating with Vivante as the TD-SCDMA market grows around the globe.”
Wei-Jin Dai, President and CEO of Vivante, added, “TD-SCDMA is a very important market for Vivante, and we are pleased that CYIT TECHNOLOGIES has selected our GPUs for their designs. The Vivante scalable GPU architecture is designed to address the needs of a wide range of requirements and silicon budgets. From top-of-the-line immersive gaming enabled smart phones to Internet enabled high-definition home entertainment platforms, the same leading edge Vivante technology will power the next generation wired and wireless embedded applications. Vivante is focused on delivering the highest GPU performance per square millimeter at low power across the spectrum mobile and home entertainment embedded GPU requirements.”
