PLX Exceeds $100 Million Mark for PCI Express; 16 Million Ports Shipped
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- August 10, 2009 -- PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), the leading global supplier of PCI Express® (PCIe®) switch and bridge silicon solutions, today announced it has reached a new milestone of having shipped more than $100 million in revenue from its industry-leading PLX® ExpressLane™ PCI Express family. PLX, with more than 65 percent of PCIe switch market share, to date has shipped nearly five million switch and bridge units, including 16 million PCIe ports, to board and system designers worldwide. PCI Express has clearly become the definitive high-speed serial link of choice for the widest variety of markets, as evidenced by its rapidly growing usage in applications ranging from control planes and embedded-systems to the mainstream use found in enterprise storage, servers and graphics.
PLX pioneered the PCIe switch and bridge market in 2002 and through innovation has developed the industry's broadest product selection, which now numbers more than 40 feature-rich devices, all of which are available today. The ExpressLane family's flagship PCIe Gen 2-compliant 96-lane, 24-port PCIe switch offers the largest lane and port counts in the market, and targets the high-end needs of system designers. At the other end of the PLX PCIe spectrum is the family's four-lane, four-port switch, which addresses straightforward switching requirements, along with PLX's well-established and versatile PCIe bridging devices. The entire family is loaded with exclusive value-added features that focus on getting designers' products to market efficiently, with the highest performance and lowest power, while supported by PLX's best-in-class, service-oriented technical team and software solutions.
"PLX has championed PCI Express since the technology's inception and, as a result the company was first to market with several products and now enjoys the leading market share for switching and bridging devices," said Jag Bolaria, senior analyst at The Linley Group and author of several industry reports on interconnect technology and markets. "Reaching the $100 million mark is significant and the 16 million ports shipped reflect the broad acceptance of PCI Express in general and of PLX's products in particular."
"As the acknowledged leader in innovative PCI Express technology and market share, PLX has been instrumental in making PCI Express the most widely used serial interconnect across broad markets," said David Raun, vice president of marketing and business development at PLX. "During this period of rapid adoption, we have seen PCI Express grow from a mere designer's consideration into an architect's fundamental building block requirement. We are proud of this $100M achievement and look forward to servicing the ever-expanding pipeline of designs as they go into production."
