Tata Elxsi & Wintegra collaborate to demonstrate LTE eNodeB reference solution
Optimized L1 Stack runs on Texas Instruments TCI6487 multi-core DSPs integrated with WinPath devices from Wintegra
Bangalore, September 15, 2009 - Tata Elxsi, a global technology and product engineering company and Wintegra, a Silicon company based in Austin, TX, today announced the availability of 3GPP-LTE eNodeB on COTS platforms.
The LTE eNodeB solution includes high performance L1 software on the Texas Instruments TCI6487 multi-core DSPs, integrated with Wintegra’s WinPath family of access packet processors and software for Layer 2/3. The solution is designed to be very flexible, allowing seamless integration with third party components, reducing development risk and shortening time-to-market.
“With LTE attaining more prominence in the market, equipment vendors are exploring options for quickly building LTE eNodeB and UE products. Towards this objective, Tata Elxsi and Wintegra offers ready to deploy reference solutions on COTS platforms that enable the vendors to quickly deliver products to the operators”, explained Mr. Nitin Pai, Vice President, Marketing, Tata Elxsi Ltd. “Our optimized reference solution will reduce development costs, time and risks. We are excited to be extending our partnership with Wintegra into this critical emerging wireless technology area”.
The LTE eNodeB solution on TI’s TCI6487 multi-core DSP platform, complements Tata Elxsi’s industry-leading WiMAX base station MAC and PHY software solution (for more information see http://www.tataelxsi.com/htmls/news_Press Releases _WiMAX 09.htm), providing equipment vendors with a single hardware platform for multi-standard solutions.
“As LTE deployments continue to accelerate, this reference solution extends Texas Instruments’ successful relationship with Tata Elxsi from WiMAX to LTE, enabling the fast time-to-market required in this environment,” said Dr. Arnon Friedmann, marketing director for wireless basestation infrastructure at TI. “The combination of Texas Instruments’ high-performance DSPs and Tata Elxsi’s software expertise provides end equipment vendors a powerful and flexible LTE system for this rapidly expanding market.”
Tata Elxsi’s proven expertise in OFDMA access technology and experience of delivering protocol stacks and telecom engineering for UMTS/GSM/DVB standards provides equipment companies with unparalleled efficiency in the development of LTE products.
“Wintegra is excited to be working with Tata Elxsi on this key LTE joint development program”, said Eran Kirzner, Vice President of Engineering, Wireless Systems at Wintegra. “We share a common objective of providing an open and flexible platform for wireless infrastructure developers who can use it in their product development to reduce time to market. This solution offers respective strengths of both the companies and delivers significant value in terms of integration, scalability and flexibility for LTE product development.”
Wintegra and Tata Elxsi are demonstrating this LTE platform at the 4G World 2009 at Chicago in Tata Elxsi’s booth # 733.
Availability
The initial release of the LTE baseband TDP with prototypes using WinPath silicon and Tata Elxsi Layer 1 software is targeted for completion by the end of 2009. Designs based on WinPath and Tata Elxsi will become available in the first quarter of 2010.
