Dolphin Integration paves the way to the "Super-ViC" generation for audio applications
Meylan, France -- October 2, 2009 -- True to their style of challenger in the Design Industry in Microelectronics, Dolphin Integration (“ALDOL” on NYSE-Alternext) today is paving the way to a new generation of Virtual Components starting with loDAC95-SV01, the first audio DAC empowered with its own oscillator and embedded voltage regulator. There is a reason to that, as loDAC95-SV01 is dedicated to applications such as set-top-box or digital TV, and only such a Super-ViC can ensure a high resilience to noise.
Audio quality of a DAC is highly dependent on the clock quality, which is guaranteed this way by the low jitter of the embedded oscillator. But audio quality is also highly dependent on the power line regulation, so that an embedded linear regulator offers a twofold advantage: not only it filters the noise on the power line to the DAC, but also to the oscillator. The overall result is a sharp reduction of cost for best THD and SNR quality.
“Knowing how much SoC integration performance is sensitive to interactions between key functions such as clocking and power regulation, there is no choice but to offer a complete solution, alleviating for our customers the nightmarish burden layout spreading and compatibility checking on analog interfaces. Actually, “Super-ViCs” are the way of the future, not just for noise resilience, but for whatever performance is critical”, says Hélène Colin, Converter Product Line Manager.
