Tensilica's HiFi Audio DSP First IP Core to Achieve DTS-HD Master Audio Logo Certification
Update: Cadence Completes Acquisition of Tensilica (Apr 24, 2013)
SANTA CLARA, CA - October 13, 2009 - Tensilica, Inc. announced today that it has been granted DTS-HD Master Audio logo certification for the HiFi Audio DSP (digital signal processor). This makes Tensilica's HiFi Audio DSP the first IP (intellectual property) core to achieve certification. Having the HiFi DSP IP core certified independent of the choice of silicon implementation will significantly ease Tensilica's customers' efforts to design Blu-ray Disc and Audio Video Receiver (AVR) SOCs (systems on chips) and complete chip and system level certification with DTS.
"DTS-HD Master Audio has become the popular technology of choice in the latest generation of Blu-ray Disc players and AVRs," says Larry Przywara, Tensilica's director of multimedia marketing. "Being first to market with DTS-HD Master Audio enables Tensilica to provide customers a time-to-market advantage in developing their Blu-ray Disc and AVR products with a very efficient power and silicon area implementation."
DTS provides best-in-class audio technologies for 5.1- and 7.1-channel surround sound at sample rates up to 192 kHz in consumer entertainment products including Blu-ray Disc players, home theater receivers and Digital TV.
"We are delighted that Tensilica has passed the rigorous testing to achieve DTS-HD Master Audio logo certification on the HiFi DSP," says Brian Towne, executive vice president and general manager, DTS. "The performance efficiency of the architecture is outstanding and will lead to lower cost designs. This benefits everyone developing next generation Blu-ray Disc player and AVR SOCs and will contribute to the growth of the Blu-ray Disc hardware market as a whole."
With the DTS-HD Master Audio logo certification, Tensilica's HiFi Audio Engine supports the following DTS technologies:
- DTS-HD Master Audio
- DTS-HD Hi Resolution
- DTS-ES
- DTS 96/24
- DTS Digital Surround
- DTS Express
- DTS Neo:6
The HiFi Audio DSP is the leading architecture for audio codec and software efficiency, and it enables lowest power and smallest area SOC implementations. It provides chip designers with a single hardware platform that can be used across multiple audio codecs and audio post processing standards. Tensilica, its customers, and its partners have ported over 60 software packages to the HiFi Audio DSP, so designers can pick the software they need for any application. As the market evolves, and new standards are defined, they can be easily and quickly ported to the HiFi Audio DSP, thereby "future proofing" the chip design. The HiFi Audio DSP has been designed into chips for products ranging from cell phones to Blu-ray Disc Players, Set Top Boxes and HD DTVs (digital televisions) by five of the top 10 semiconductor companies and leading OEM System Manufacturers.
