CHiL Semiconductor Corporation Selects Kilopass' XPM Field-Programmable Embedded Non-Volatile Memory
Update: Synopsys Expands DesignWare IP Portfolio with Acquisition of Kilopass Technology (Jan. 10, 2018)
Small form factor enables multi-time programmable (MTP) memory with 100 - 1000 cycles of endurance at lower cost point than traditional non-volatile memory
Santa Clara, Calif. and Tewksbury, Mass. – January 26, 2010 – Kilopass Technology Inc., a leading provider of semiconductor logic non-volatile memory (NVM) intellectual property (IP), and CHiL Semiconductor Corporation, an innovative developer of mixed-signal power-management integrated circuits (ICs) for use in a wide variety of computing devices, today announced that CHiL has licensed Kilopass’ XPM™ non-volatile memory (NVM) solution. Kilopass’ XPM extra-permanent memory™ is ideal for the calibration and configuration required in next-generation power management products.
“CHiL has proven to the market the viability and rich performance of power management devices based on traditional non-volatile memory," states Larry Spaziani, VP of Marketing at CHiL Semiconductor Corporation. “By partnering with Kilopass, we are now able to achieve the same efficiency and performance at a much lower cost. This allows our leading edge desktop, server, gaming console, and graphics customers to differentiate their products and out-distance their competitors that may be using less innovative methods.”
Kilopass’ 2T one-time programmable (OTP) technology is 20X smaller than floating-gate technologies implemented in standard CMOS. With this large area advantage, OTP can be used to implement multiple-time programmable (MTP) technology with endurance of up to 1,000 cycles -- without the area/cost penalty. It meets or exceeds the requirements of most mixed-signal applications, which need only tens to hundreds of cycles during the lifetime of the chip to re-tune the overall silicon characteristics that tend to shift over time.
CHiL’s power management solution combines analog and proprietary digital power techniques to deliver high performance and energy-efficient solutions to the CPU and GPU markets. This system-level integration approach reduces BOM cost while achieving the power and energy benchmarks required. Kilopass’ XPM™, a field programmable solution, enables unique configurations for each system, shortens the time to market, and significantly reduces the BOM.
“We are excited CHiL Semiconductor Corporation has chosen Kilopass’ XPM™ solution for the next-generation power management products” said Kilopass VP of Sales, Juan Chapa. “We enable them to achieve their design specification at lower cost without sacrificing the flexibility to update or configure their product in-system. This allows CHiL to bring higher-value solutions to market at lower cost, faster than their competitors.”
