MIPS Technologies and SySDSoft Partner to Enable LTE on MIPS Architecture
Scalable MIPS32®-Optimized Protocol Stack to Speed Mobile Development for MIPS Licensees
MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, Barcelona -February 10, 2010 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores, and SySDSoft Inc., a leading supplier of Mobile WiMAX and LTE embedded software solutions for 4G, today announced they are teaming to enable LTE on the MIPS® architecture. As a new member of the MIPS Alliance Program, SySDSoft is working closely with MIPS Technologies to provide an optimized MIPS32® LTE protocol stack that MIPS licensees can leverage across the entire range of MIPS processor cores. SySDSoft will initially port its proven stack to a MIPS32 24K® processor core, and will share initial results of the collaboration at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
MIPS Technologies already has multiple licensees in the LTE and WiMAX area, with a number of WiMAX chipsets and upcoming LTE handset and basestation designs in the market. The work between MIPS Technologies and SySDSoft complements the work that many MIPS licensees are already doing in these areas by providing fully tested, proven MAC and PHY software designs to help speed time to market. There will be several MIPS-Based WiMAX and LTE demonstrations during Mobile World Congress.
"SySDSoft is widely recognized for the quality of its software solutions, so it makes sense for us to partner with them as we make deeper inroads into the mobile market," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing, MIPS Technologies. "With the global transition to 4G, the high bandwidth standards are very similar to wireless technologies where MIPS Technologies has a strong presence. We are excited to leverage this trend and enable our customers to get to market quickly with proven mobile solutions."
"We are pleased to work with MIPS Technologies to make 4G telephony a reality for MIPS licensees," said Khaled Ismail, CEO, SySDSoft. "With our mobile WiMAX and LTE stacks, SySDSoft is uniquely positioned among 4G stack offerings. Our stacks provide processing efficiency, support of very high data rates, and offer many differentiating features for baseband chipset makers. Leveraging our technology, we are confident that benchmarks will show the benefits of the MIPS architecture in terms of data compression, performance and channel utilization for 4G."
