Teleca and Imagination Technologies bring Adobe Flash Platform to life
The two companies are working together to demonstrate market leading performance using Adobe Flash and Flash Lite.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden-- February 12, 2010 -- Teleca, a world-leading supplier of solutions and services to the mobile industry today announced collaboration with Imagination Technologies, the world’s leading supplier of multimedia system-on-chip Intellectual Property (SoC IP). The two companies are working together to create a range of optimized demonstration platforms for Flash and Flash Lite including optimizations for OpenVG 1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0 using Imagination’s POWERVR SGX and VGX graphics IP cores. These optimizations deliver significant performance improvements from standard Flash software-based implementations.
The two companies are working closely with Adobe on integration and optimization of Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1 for platforms including Android, Windows CE, and embedded Linux. Flash Player 10.1 brings the full desktop web experience to mobile and embedded devices for the first time and will be included in a wide range of platforms and products from virtually all major handset OEMs. Current optimizations include the use of OpenGL ES 2.0 for rendering Flash content, and the companies are also investigating the acceleration of Flash Video formats by decoding H.264 and other video formats using Imagination’s multi-standard, multi-stream POWERVR VXD HD video decoder core.
The companies have also collaborated to create Flash Lite 3 & 4 based demonstration platforms using applications processors featuring the POWERVR SGX hardware. Since version 3.1.5, Adobe Flash Lite has supported optimization through the use of OpenVG 1.1 APIs which are available in all POWERVR SGX and VGX graphics cores. Teleca and Imagination Technologies have worked together to provide the best configurations and usage of the OpenVG APIs, as well as developing techniques for optimizing Flash content to take maximum advantage of the available acceleration. Typical performance gains of around 3x performance or more can be achieved using hardware OpenVG acceleration compared with the equivalent software-only Flash Lite player, resulting in compelling user experiences and smooth animations for a wide range of consumer electronics.
“Both Flash and Flash Lite offer consumer electronics companies a great platform to build compelling user experiences. By working with Imagination Technologies and using our existing competencies in Adobe Flash Platform we are able to take this to a whole new level and to deliver on the growing demand for rich content experiences. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Imagination Technologies and to further unlocking the potential applications for Flash Platform technologies,” comments Andrew Till, Vice President, Solutions Marketing, Teleca.
“Through our collaboration, we can bring together Teleca’s experience and expertise with the Adobe Flash Platform with Imagination’s industry experience gained through more than 200m devices already shipped using POWERVR graphics technologies, and our extensive knowledge of graphics and video acceleration and optimization for real applications in real operating environments under every major mobile and embedded OS. Together we can enable the creation of incredible user experiences with Flash content, in particular driving the next generation of unconstrained, fully mobile internet experiences,” says Tony King-Smith, VP Marketing, Imagination Technologies.
