Cosmic Circuits reaches new milestone in Wireless Analog IP collaboration with GLOBALFOUNDRIES
Update: Cadence Completes Acquisition of Cosmic Circuits (May 23, 2013)
The continuing collaboration between Cosmic Circuits and GLOBALFOUNDRIES has resulted in yet another success, extending the availability of Cosmic’s proven & optimized wireless analog platform to the GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ low-leakage 65nm LPe process node, intended to benefit System-on-Chips for Wireless standards such as LTE, WiMax and WLAN
Bangalore, INDIA and Campbell, California, 27th April, 2010: Cosmic Circuits, a leading provider of differentiated Analog and Mixed-Signal IP cores, today announced the availability of Cosmic’s WiMO platform of mixed-signal IP cores for wireless communication applications, silicon-proven in GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ 65nm LPE process node.
Cosmic Circuits offers a broad portfolio of differentiated Analog IP cores in nanometer technology nodes covering Data-Converters, Analog-Front-End platforms for Wireless and Audio, Power-Management, Clocking and MIPI Interfaces. GLOBALFOUNDRIES, a leading provider of advanced semiconductor manufacturing technology, provides a unique combination of advanced technology, manufacturing excellence and global operations. With the integration of Chartered in January 2010, GLOBALFOUNDRIES significantly expanded its capacity and ability to provide best-in-class foundry services from mainstream to the leading edge.
Cosmic Circuits and GLOBALFOUNDRIES have a history of cooperation in making available a broad portfolio of Analog IP in process technology nodes from 0.18um through 130nm, 90nm and 65nm. Wireless standards evolving into MIMO (Multiple-In-Multiple-Out) configurations, and the ubiquitous integration of wireless communication into portable applications, needed compact, low-power and well-proven Analog IP. And this was needed in low-leakage process technologies optimized for battery-powered applications. Hence the two companies had further extended their technology collaboration to make available silicon-proven and differentiated mixed-signal IP cores for Wireless applications such as LTE, WiMax and WLAN in GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ 65nm LPe process. GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ enhanced version of its 65-nanometer low-power process, called 65nm LPe, utilizes innovative leakage reduction techniques to significantly improve SoC power utilization and battery efficiency by up to 25 percent.
The collaboration has successfully reached an important milestone in making available Cosmic’s WiMO platform of mixed-signal IP cores, being successfully proven in the first-pass of a test-silicon in 65nm. Targeting Wireless-MIMO applications, the platform comprises of dual matched analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, monitoring and control A/D and D/A converters, a versatile low-jitter PLL, voltage regulators, and analog reference generation.
“We strongly believe in offering our customers a comprehensive design platform with established sources of reliable and silicon proven IP,” said Dave Steer, director of IP business development at GLOBALFOUNDRIES. “Cosmic is a key member of this ecosystem, and our customers have been able to consistently rely on Cosmic. They have a strong team, a broad portfolio of IP cores, and a solid customer-focused approach.”
The CEO of Cosmic Circuits, Ganapathy Subramaniam, commented that “Our cooperation with Chartered, now GLOBALFOUNDRIES, has been over several process technology nodes and across a variety of analog technology families. We’ve found them always wanting to be ahead of the curve in bringing complete design solutions to customers. They understand what it takes to bring certainty to the development of complex mixed-signal SOCs, over and above highly optimized process technologies such as the 65nm LPe process”. On the experience of developing analog IP, he commented that “the design infrastructure was stable, resulting in our design process being fully in control. It is not surprising to us that our common customers also have had a smooth experience using GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ design ecosystem, their stable manufacturing process, and our well-proven IP cores”.
Cosmic Circuits constantly endeavors to bring differentiated and silicon-proven Analog and Mixed-Signal IP cores to the design-community for integration on system-on-Chips. A majority of the nanometer cores available from Cosmic Circuits are suited for portable and fixed consumer, wireless, and convergence applications, among others.
