Global Unichip's revenue hits record high for Q2, 2010, totaling NT$ 2.566 billion
HSINCHU, TAIWAN- Aug. 10, 2010- The world's leading SoC Design Foundry service provider, Global Unichip Corp. (GUC; TW: 3443), held the Q2 2010 Investor Conference in Taipei today. Chairman, F.C. Tseng and president, Jim Lai, shared their views on the outlook of GUC and the industry.
The total revenue for Q2, 2010 was NT$ 2.566 billion, an increase of 19% from Q1, 2010 (NT$ 2.157 billion), and a significant increase of 26% from Q2, 2009 (NT$ 2.035 billion). GUC's Q2 revenue hit record high. The consolidated revenue for the first half of 2010 was NT$ 4.723 billion, operating income was NT$ 255 million, net income was NT$ 270 million, and the EPS was NT$ 2.05 (The EPS was NT$2.23 before employee profit sharing expense).
GUC has always been excelling in providing total solutions of advanced process technology for customers. Thus, total revenue from nanometer projects (40/65/90nm) for the second quarter of 2010 grew rapidly to 43%. In particular, the NRE revenue this quarter broke historical record and 89% of the NRE revenue came from nanometer projects. Further breakdown of the NRE revenue showed that 40nm projects sharply went up to 34%, and 65nm projects and 90nm projects represented 49% and 6% respectively. The revenue of 0.13 um projects accounted for 63% of the total turnkey revenue in 2Q, 2010, being the major contributor. The turnkey revenue of 65nm projects was the second largest revenue contributor, with a strong increase to 20%.
Communication product category represented 55% of the total revenue in 2Q, 2010, while consumer electronics accounted for 37%. The major product applications include networking, mobile phones, GPS, digital video recorder and MID (Mobile Internet Device). North America served as the main customer base, generating 54% of the revenue for the second quarter of 2010. Europe region gained major growth, with a significant increase to 15%. The revenue in Korea also rose to 9%. Japan and Taiwan represented 6% and 7%, respectively, of the revenue. The revenue in China kept growing, accounting for 9% of the total and the new customer projects in China focus on advanced process technology, including 40nm and 65nm.
To sum up, GUC's revenue in the first half of 2011 showed an impressive increase, with 21% YoY growth. The NRE sales on advanced process technology are still climbing and the mass production of 65nm projects Turnkey service is growing steadily. Thus, the revenue in Q3, 2010 is expected to keep going up. Besides, GUC has successfully expanded its market in Europe and Korea. The market diversification will feed the future growth momentum of GUC.
