Renesas Electronics and Acacia Research Enter into Strategic Patent Licensing Alliance
Tokyo, Japan / Newport Beach, CA – August 24, 2010 – Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723) and Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTG) announced today that Renesas Electronics, a premiere supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, and Acacia, a leader in patent licensing, have entered into a strategic patent licensing alliance. Pursuant to this relationship, those patents selected by Acacia and Renesas Electronics from Renesas Electronics' portfolio of over 40,000 patents and patent applications will be assigned to Acacia for patent licensing.
“In today's new paradigm of intellectual property where patent transactions are a part of everyday business, patent licensing has become increasingly important. “We are honored to have been selected to license the patents of Renesas Electronics, the world's third largest semiconductor company by revenue,” commented Paul Ryan, Acacia's Chairman and CEO. “This alliance with Renesas Electronics is part of our company's mission to help patent holders worldwide realize fair value from their investment in research and development. Our licensing success helps support future R&D by patent holders for the benefit of their customers.”
