Sankalp Semiconductor adds New Services
August 30, 2010 -- Sankalp Semiconductor is a design service company whose mission is to create an ecosystem of Analog & Mixed-signal Services & Solutions. Since its nascent days it has focused on servicing semiconductor companies with high quality AMS design work. Today the trend within semiconductor companies is to design SoCs which incorporates analog, digital & memory modules on the same substrate. Due to this trend EDA tools have evolved to support SoCs and as a forward looking service company we have added AMS Verification, Digital Backend, Standard Cell Characterization and Pspice Modeling Services to our Portfolio. We also provide on-site layout services as of July 2010. “The intent behind adding these services is to increase our customer satisfaction and customer base,” says Ash Patel, Sankalp’s Director of Business Development.
To build a new group we recruit a senior industry expert to be the leader of that group. High importance is given to the fact that the leader aligns to our service mentality and work quality. Once the leader is on board, he or she is given full authority to grow the group as per business needs.
AMS verification – With process geometry shrinking and capability for designing highly integrated mixed-signal ICs increasing the need for AMS verification has emerged. We want to be self sufficient in AMS design domain and hence the motivation to offer this service..
Digital Backend – Sankalp’s main focus being AMS design services and some people might wonder why provide Digital Backend services. The reason behind this strategic decision was to not compete with digital design companies but to be able to take up complete AMS design projects. In line with the trend for SoCs the digital content has gone up in AMS ICs and we wanted to be self sufficient as far AMS design capabilities go.
Standard Cell Characterization - When designing in 65nm and 40nm nodes, re-characterization of standard cell libraries is becoming increasingly necessary in order to get the delay, timing constraints, switching power, leakage and noise for all the corners needed for accurate design signoff. Standard design libraries offered by foundries or library vendors are characterized for certain conditions but the de-rating factors do not apply to all temperatures and voltages. To guarantee first time right designs, library re-characterization becomes essential for 65nm and 40nm technologies.
Pspice Modeling – Larger semiconductor companies are facing higher costs and as a direct result of this factor lot of low to mid level engineering work is being outsourced to favorable cost regions. We saw Pspice Modeling as a perfect opportunity to leverage our combination of AMS expertise and cost structure.
About Sankalp Semiconductor - Sankalp Semiconductor is an AMS semiconductor service provider that provides services to some of the largest semiconductor companies in the world. Sankalp was founded in 2005 by a team of industry experts. Sankalp’s mission is to create a world-class technology hub of mixed-signal semiconductor services and solutions . There are three key aspects by which the mission is being accomplished. First, work from second tier cities of India, which provides a balanced life-work environment allowing energy to be spent on deep technical issues. Second, attract proven technical leaders with entrepreneurial zeal to join Sankalp as partners, giving them complete freedom to define their own destiny. Third, work closely with some of the topmost colleges in the country by being physically close to the college campus – this takes care of scalability and forward looking ecosystem creation across diverse job domains. In recent years Sankalp has strengthened its position in the industry and employs 120 Sankalpites at multiple sites.
