Direct Insight introduces SwiftModule-DM with 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8
Production-ready module with TI Da Vinci DM3730
Oxfordshire -- September 2nd, 2010 -- Direct Insight announces SwiftModule-DM, a tiny production-ready module equipped with a TI Da Vinci DM3730 with 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 core, and an optional DSP imaging and video accelerator capable of 720p HD video encoding and decoding. SwiftModule-DM is the most powerful ARM-based system on module available today.
The Da Vinci DM3730 is part of a range of devices which represent an evolution of the OMAP3530 series devices. The DM3730 features a PowerVR SGX graphics accelerator with Open GL ES 2.0 and OpenVG support while the pin-compatible AM3703 is a lower-cost version with the same core processor, but without the graphics accelerator or video DSP. SwiftModule-DM is available with either AM3703 or DM3730, and in either 800MHz or 1GHz processor clock version.
Measuring just 35mm x 68mm, the 200-pin module is designed to be complemented by the customer's own baseboard, the primary role of which is to break out the required connectivity provided by the module, which includes Ethernet, 2x SD Card, 3x UARTs, image sensor, audio, USB Host and OTG, touch screen, keypad, SPI and I2C. For development and prototyping purposes, the module is supplied with the 9 x 9cm SwiftLite-DM, which exposes these interfaces and adds additional facilities such as HDMI and LVDS outputs. Full Board Support Packages for Linux and Windows CE 6.0 are provided.
SwiftModule-DM includes up to 256MB of 333MHz mDDR RAM, and 256MB NAND Flash. The module, produced in conjunction with Israeli manufacturer Variscite Ltd, is available in commercial, extended and industrial temperature ranges, with pricing from around 75 Euros (1000x). SwiftLite-DM equipped with a DM3730 SwiftModule-DM is shipping immediately, with a full range of variants being rolled out over the coming weeks.
