Elliptic Technologies Announces New Suite of Content Protection Solutions
Update: Synopsys Expands Security Solutions with Acquisition of Elliptic Technologies (June 29, 2015)
September 16, 2010 – Ottawa, Canada: Leading global security IP provider Elliptic Technologies today announced the launch of its Ellipsys Trust Framework (ETF), a proven comprehensive solution for the most difficult security challenges faced today by manufacturers and system providers – implementing cost-effective cryptographic protection of high-value assets.
People, organizations, businesses, customers, and employees connect and interact with each other anywhere and anytime through wired and wireless networks. New classes of networked embedded devices used in cars, at home and in business and social settings are emerging, making these interactions significantly more complex. We now live in a world where data, sound and video are all carried over the global Internet. Privacy and control over use of information is more important than ever for individuals and companies.
Credit card and banking information, health records, service subscriptions and similar data must be protected to prevent their misuse against their rightful owners. Producers of music, movies, TV programs and other types of intellectual property need to preserve the value of their content by protecting it from widespread free distribution while allowing their authorized users easy access to content. Network operators and administrators need to manage the identity of devices and subscribers, and to enable features, applications and services in mobile and wired networks. System manufacturers need to activate and provision products at the point of sale. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) need to protect against counterfeiting, cloning, overbuilding of products produced by Original Design Manufactures (ODMs) and contract manufacturers.
The Ellipsys Trust Framework addresses all these problems through a highly flexible set of products that work in tandem and can be adapted to any target application or platform to provide the trust and protection required in devices and systems.
Three main products form the core of the ETF solution:
-
Ellipsys-SB: Secure Boot – a bootstrap loader that can greatly enhance the security of embedded systems by cryptographically verifying (and optionally decrypting) that the code being loaded and executed is authentic and has not been tampered with.
-
Ellipsys-CA: Certification Authority – a secure server based set of applications and tools to generate, use and manage security credentials. It provides a trusted, managed environment to generate, inject, transport, archive and revoke keys and certificates to ensure protection in the supply-chain. It can also be used to generate and manage credentials used in device-to-device identification and authentication, protocols, content protection and other security applications.
-
Ellipsys-VSM: Virtual Security Module – provides a software-friendly security module – a software smartcard – that allows the embedding and binding of a virtually unlimited number of keys in embedded system environments.
The ETF is a proven solution architecture. Elliptic has joined forces with leading providers of multimedia content distribution systems to provide best-in-class solutions for protecting High Definition video content distribution over industry-standard networks.
Richard White, President and CEO of Elliptic Technologies commented: “Elliptic has the capabilities to provide very complex security solutions to fulfill the ever-challenging security needs of today’s applications. Ellipsys Trust Framework is yet another example of a product family that offers outstanding levels of security, performance, flexibility and is a perfect foundation for enabling trust and trustworthiness in devices and systems.”
