SiliconBlue's New Paradigm Breaks Through the Volume Barrier
Update: Lattice Semiconductor to Acquire SiliconBlue (Dec 09, 2011)
Company Ships Over 1 Million Units in 3Q 2010, With Doubling Growth Projected
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--October 1, 2010--SiliconBlue® Technologies, the leader in mobileFPGA™ devices designed for mobile handset applications, announced today that it has shipped over 1 million units in calendar 3rd quarter of this year, achieving an unprecedented milestone for the programmable logic industry. Furthermore, with continued strong growth forecasted for the mobile handset market, the company expects unit shipments to at least double in each of the next few quarters.
The tremendous explosion in new handset models stems from innovative features developed on Android and Windows Phone 7 platforms. The rate of innovation continues to accelerate well past the design cycle of traditional mobile chipsets, creating the need for a complementary device. In addition, the market is becoming increasingly fragmented due to changing use models, expansion into new geographies around the world, and the need for differentiation. SiliconBlue’s customizable mobile device solution uniquely addresses the design win opportunities that these trends are creating.
“We are very encouraged by the strong market acceptance of our solution,” said Kapil Shankar, CEO of SiliconBlue. “We now have design wins with major OEMs in Korea, Japan, and Greater China, and we expect to achieve our next milestone of 1 million units per month next quarter. With these volumes, we are creating a new paradigm in the FPGA industry that previously was not thought possible.”
