Jungo and Renesas Electronics America partner on USB for SuperH MPUs
- Partnership brings effortless USB connectivity to Renesas Electronics microprocessor units (MPUs)
- Joint solution to be shown at Renesas Electronics Developers Conference in October
- Companies to show communication between integrated MPU and USB peripherals like Apple iPod
SAN JOSE, CA, Ocotober 11, 2010 - Jungo Ltd., a leading provider of connectivity systems and driver development tools, today announced a partnership with Renesas Electronics America Inc. to bring feature-rich USB connectivity to Renesas Electronics' SuperH® series of RISC microprocessors. The joint solution will be demonstrated at the Renesas Electronics Developers Conference in Orange County, California, USA, in October. Renesas Electronics began operations in April this year, following a merger between NEC Electronics and Renesas Technology. It is the world's largest manufacturer of microcontrollers and a leading manufacturer of semiconductor systems for mobile phones, multimedia equipment, automotive infotainment systems, media players and consumer electronics. For Renesas Electronics DevCon, the two companies have integrated Jungo's USB host stack (USBwareTM) and media management middleware (MediaCoreTM) with the Renesas Electronics SH7264 Starter Kit. The process included integrations with the ThreadX real-time operating system (RTOS) from Express Logic and GUI software from Swell Software and from Renesas Electronics itself. The Renesas Electronics multiprocessor units (MPUs) that are now supported by Jungo include the SH-2A and SH-4 devices. The DevCon demonstration will feature the Renesas Electronics SH7264, with Jungo onboard, connecting to an Apple iPod and other USB peripherals. It will show how the Jungo software enables effortless connectivity between the Renesas Electronics MPU and the third-party devices and provides efficient synchronization, playback and media-scanning capabilities. "Jungo's USBware and MediaCore software make it easy for OEMs to quickly launch robust products based on the Renesas Electronics MPUs," said Jungo Connectivity Software General Manager Ophir Herbst. "This integrated platform provides the shortest time-to-market for any device OEM."
"We are pleased to be working with a company as innovative and dedicated as Jungo," said Peter Carbone, senior director, Consumer & Industrial Business Unit, Renesas Electronics America. "Based on the SuperH plus other Renesas products, the two companies can jointly provide a highly efficient solution for multimedia devices."
