Mindspeed Collaborates with ArrayComm and Continuous Computing on Scalable, Single-Chip 4G Basestation Solutions
Complete Long-Term Evolution (LTE) eNodeB Solution Enables Picocell Designs That Can Be Scaled to Femto, Micro and Macro Platforms
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Oct 18, 2010 -- Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. , a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that it is collaborating with ArrayComm LLC and Continuous Computing Corporation on a complete commercial eNodeB solution for LTE-frequency division duplex (LTE-FDD) and LTE-Time Division Duplex (LTE-TDD) mobile networks.
Mindspeed(R)'s Transcede(TM) system-on-chip (SoC) 3G/4G/LTE baseband processor gives the jointly developed LTE eNodeB solution superior spectrum efficiency, capacity and peak data rates with extremely low latency. The solution also includes the Trillium LTE software stack from Continuous Computing, which is currently in multiple LTE field trials globally, and ArrayComm's complete, standards-compliant, interoperable physical-layer (PHY) software. The solution is designed to speed development of LTE basestations that scale economically from femto to macro cell system designs.
"Our collaboration gives customers everything they need to quickly bring high-performance, well-differentiated basestation equipment to the LTE mobile-infrastructure market," said Alan Taylor, marketing director for Mindspeed's communications convergence processing (CCP) business unit. "The solution leverages the Transcede family's computational horsepower and scalable architecture to meet heavy LTE processing demands, while enabling the same layer one and layer two software components to be ported across a wide range of platform designs."
"We are excited about the time-to-market, performance and cost benefits that this jointly developed solution brings to our customers," said Todd Mersch, director of product line management with Continuous Computing. "Being able to port our field-proven, carrier-class Trillium LTE software across multiple Transcede-based equipment designs, from femtocells to macro basestations, is an extremely powerful value proposition for manufacturers of next-generation LTE access equipment. This solution will rapidly accelerate time-to-market, while significantly reducing system cost."
"This collaboration will enable LTE equipment suppliers to quickly develop a complete eNodeB solution with off-the-shelf software that is fully tested and ready for commercial operation," said Bruce Duysen, president of ArrayComm. "Our three-way collaboration ensures the optimal integration of hardware and software resulting in industry-leading basestation performance."
A new class of high-performance silicon, the Transcede family of SoCs can deliver three sectors of LTE processing in a single device and enables the first 64-user "picocell on a chip." At the same time, it provides substantial processing headroom using a modular software approach that allows manufacturers to incorporate their own proprietary, value-added features to a standard eNodeB implementation, such as network listening for basestation self-optimization and auto-configuration. The solution uses an innovative, task-based hardware architecture model that enables software developed on one Transcede device to be ported to other products within the Transcede family across the full range of system platforms, including enterprise femtocell, picocell (indoor and outdoor), microcell and macrocell basestations.
The Trillium LTE software solution from Continuous Computing will be demonstrated in booth 526 at 4G World(TM) at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. The exhibit hall is open from October 19-21, 2010.
Mindspeed, a finalist for Best Mobile Chip Company in the second annual RCR Wireless Ecosystem Awards at 4G World, will host press, analyst and customer briefings in Meeting Center 930 at 4G World.
