TES announces DM3730 based MAGiK (Media & Graphics Innovation Kit) supporting Android 2.2 (Froyo) and Linux
Stuttgart, Germany -- November 4, 2010 -- TES Electronic Solutions (“TES”), the global electronics design and manufacturing services company announces an upgrade to its MAGiK family of embedded computing development kits with the incorporation of Texas Instruments’ DaVinci DM3730 media processor, as well as supporting the Android operating system. The DM3730 is a 720p- ready media processor, faster than the popular OMAP35xx and uses 40 percent less power. It integrates a 1 GHz ARM® Cortex-A8 core, a 800 MHz C64x+ DSP core and a 3D graphics accelerator, and is manufactured in a 45nm process.
MAGiK (Media & Graphics Innovation Kit) proves TES’ competence in electronic design services and manufacturing by integrating embedded computing technologies with graphics and multimedia in a ready-to-use innovation kit. Its hardware is a combination of a flexible production-ready system module based on Texas Instruments’ DaVinci™ DM3730 media processor along with a generic I/O board, enabling a comprehensive set of multimedia connectivity and general purpose expansion ports to suit most embedded development requirements. The kit’s software consists of the selected operating systems (OS) ( Android / Linux), the Guiliani C++ framework for convenient development of feature-rich, animated GUI, graphics acceleration and a multimedia suite.
The industrial grade system modules and accompanying software stack are easy to integrate into custom products targeting e.g. medical, industrial, home automation, transportation and high-end consumer applications.
"An upgrade to the DM3730 offers our customers enhanced performance, low power and flexibility of using an existing software stack," said Martin Gassner, Director sales and marketing TES-DST. "We are bringing the features of the latest mobile processors to the industrial space offering a similar user experience and a longer life cycle as demanded by our customers. Early this year, we integrated our Guiliani user interface framework on MAGiK. As a step further we are now offering a choice of Android 2.2 or Linux on DM3730 with accelerated graphics and multimedia. We are positioning ourselves as a value adding ODM, capable of offering services, technology and manufacturing."
"As an Elite Design House member, TES’ hardware and software design expertise is clearly highlighted on MAGiK --- integrating graphics, multimedia framework and a user-friendly HMI framework for a variety of industrial, medical and consumer applications," said Vineet Ganju, product marketing manager, C6000 products, TI. "The MAGiK production-ready reference design, based on high- performance TI analog, power management and DaVinci DM3730 media processors, combined with TES’ manufacturing services, is already helping worldwide customers accelerate time-to-market for their products."
The MAGiK DM3730 development kit is priced at € 1099 and available for order now. Typical applications for MAGiK are home media devices, museum AV guides, portable industrial measurement devices, building security, media phone with DECT, personal medical devices, portable GNSS displays and digital signage.
